New movies suck, everybody knows it, some deny it but we all know it. And it's not just any one thing, there are a lot of pieces missing from what made older movies great, and new ones boring and stupid and forgettable.
What are some things that are missing?
What I miss is when you actually got to see a real home. The other night I'm scrolling through the channels and Halloween II is on and the camera pans into that old couple's house, looks like a REAL home, like somebody actually LIVES there, and has lived there, that the house has been lived IN.
So many times in new movies, TV shows, everything is a matching color, walls, carpet, couch, pillows, all the same color, usually white, which NOBODY has with kids in the house, all sterile and lifeless, kitchen's pristine because nothing's ever used, nothing's touched, nothing's out of place, if they actually film in real homes, WHO lives in these places?
A little more pristine but in all fairness it was a new house and they'd recently moved, but there's still the lovely little clutter of things all jam packed together to fit on the counters.
As a kid this always looked like a fun house to live in.
Homes today are either shown as museum pieces where in reality nobody could touch anything, or they go overboard to make it a disaster area, nothing looks real, cozy, lived in, etc.

I miss some stuff. I liked it when they had square looking cars. But now they have cars that look like , not square cars.

I'll tell you one thing I'm grateful for new movies not having... Goldie Hawn in them.

All white casts and being able to call lesser humans funny names. Hey-o. But no, I do miss practical effects and everyday-people-looking actors.

I miss subtlety. People always say oh movies in the 80s had dirty jokes JUST like the ones today where they feel a need to have a huge phallus drawn on every surface taking up the whole screen and every single word out of anybody's mouth has to be 'fuck' 'ass' 'dick' and every single one has to be all but shouted so you KNOW they're saying it like it's some brilliant brain fart nobody ever thought of before, uh no they did not do that 30 years ago, they implied more than they showed and they could interject that vocabulary into the conversation and make it all feel like a real dialogue so much so it'd be easy to miss it if you weren't listening close enough.

Intelligent writing.
There is more emotional resonance in animated films like Beauty and the Beast and Shrek than in most live action films adapted from television and comic books with hollow characters and earsplitting sound effects.

Fairy tales and legends given a traditional if not always faithful treatment. Since Shrek , Happily N'Ever After, and Snow White and the Huntsman traditional tellings have fallen by the wayside.

Ooh, red movie blood, WTF is with this black shit they use all the time? And say it's to keep a rating, bitch please, watch any cop or medical drama show on TV and there's red blood left and right, TV-14, the equivalent of PG-13, no issues there, so why is it one for movies?

I don’t blanket hate on new films but I do wish they went back to opening credits that would be over and done in less time than it takes for Marvel studios to let us know that we’re watching a Marvel film. I know we often get productions that are made by different companies and they all need to be represented but just give us your logos. And I do wish people would stop telling us what we all think.
