My work colleagues keep telling me to watch it but I think it's on Netflix and I don't have Netflix (or Apple TV and others). It seems to be a global phenomenon that has captured the popular imagination.

Yeah, I watched it. It was alright. Not particularly original with too much downtime between the games themselves, but when the games were actually happening, you're glued.

I thought it was very good - but then I have been a big fan of Korean movies for at least twenty years now.

Above average, but not that good to justify the hype.
But I have seen only eight of nine episodes.

Anti-capitalist?
It's not exactly subtle about it.

So a game where the utmost care is taken to make everyone equal, is anti-capitalist? If you are speaking for Leo, keep going.
I guess if you don't know what capitalism is, and you are looking for an anti-capitalist message, then you'll find one. That the game was created by a bored billionaire, watched by billionaires, is irrelevant to capitalism because whether capitalism exists or not you still need to eat and feed your family if you have one. Even under socialist and communist economies, there are those who have more than everyone else. So if we lived under communism, socialism, feudalism, fascism, you would think it was a condemnation of that system. Capitalism is an economic system where the means of production are owned by private citizens, it is an evolution of feudalism, but not necessarily a free market. How is Squid Games anti-that?

Actually, I'm speaking for the writer/director. “I wanted to write a story that was an allegory or fable about modern capitalist society, something that depicts an extreme competition, somewhat like the extreme competition of life." Game over, Sarge.

I thought it was predictable with more episodes than were needed and the same thing happens in every single game. Too much doesn't make sense. The reveal of the Frontman adds nothing and goes nowhere and the twist at the end makes no sense and feels like it was shoehorned in.
The games are good enough but they eventually become more luck based than skill based. I wish they would have been more creative and I'm not sure how tug of war counts as a kids game.

Game over, Sarge. I mean to be fair a director/ writer might misunderstand intent within their own material, look at Kurt Sutter as a prime example or moreso perhaps Nic Pizzolatto, now that said Sarge does this alot we're he goes on tangents that feel odd or very irrelevant regarding the topic on hand. It's cute when he attempts to make points but they come off weirdly left field and shrill.

You claimed it was anti-capitalist, now, start over. That quote doesn't say anti-capitalist, but even if it did, the director's opinion is just an opinion. Art is subjective and movies are a collaboration of thousands of people.

I give you credit for realizing a director may not convey the message they wanted to convey, it shows that even you contribute something useful once in a great while.

Art is subjective and movies are a collaboration of thousands of people. He said it's an allegory for capitalist society, and given the games and competition are portrayed in an unambiguously negative light, we can conclude it's anti-capitalism. Look, you like the show? That's great. You choose to interpret the games as being about something other than what the creator said they were? More power to you. Neither of these things require you to smugly accuse people of not understanding economics, especially when you're the one who missed the obvious intent of the show. When I agreed it was anti-capitalism, you accused me of looking for an anti-capitalist message, and now that I've quoted the show's own creator, suddenly you're a lot more open to people reading into it what they want to. Is that honest conversation?
