I really like Blu Ray discs but they are so expensive. DVD's got really cheap before they even started the transition to BR.
Part of me says Blu rays will become as cheap as DVD as technology improves and maybe people start moving to 4K.
The other part of me says that the process of creating a BR is so much more intensive than DVD that they will have to remain pricey just to re-cap production costs. Most people will move to streaming and Blu Rays won't be made in large quantities to lower costs.
What will happen? Does anyone know the technology and how it will evolve?

There are $5 Blu-ray bins at Wal-Mart just like $5 DVD bins.

I just realized, the last handful of Blus I bought were rather upscale - ZS Justice League, Endgame, & The Grand Budapest Hotel Criterion. The last regular issue blu I bought was maybe Kong v Godzilla 2021 & it didn't seem too expensive.

You can easily acquire new copies of Hangover 2 on bluray for a bargain price.
I am surprised though with 4ks being out there the blu ray prices for new releases haven’t dropped much. I think I typically see new 4ks in the $29 to $35 range and blurays of the same new release are typically only $5 cheaper. Of course they still release new films on dvd solo releases which I find incredible. How many people still have a 480i tv? A new bluray player is very inexpensive. Might as well maximize your tv resolution even if it’s just a HD television and not 4k.

I just purchased a couple of Blu-rays yesterday for under $5. From Best Buy, to the best of my knowledge, they don't have a "previously viewed" section.

BTW- I contribute to the HumanFund Double-checking my receipt (I chose the email only option), only one movie was actually under $5: The Hitman's Bodyguard, after discounts. Beetlejuice and Tombstone were $6.99 and $5.99, respectively.

So long as DVDs still sell, Blu Rays are gonna cost more. And DVDs still sell among consumers of physical media.

Many Blu rays are cheap now. It’s a total misconception to say they still cost a lot. Hell even 4K discs go on sale. I just bought Blade and Space Jam on 4K for 10 bucks
