...honestly, I'm not getting the hype. It's fairly entertaining, but it isn't anything I haven't seen before from the Koreans or Japanese.
They have some...interesting ideas about authority, greed, and just how awful people will be to people.

I thought the first episode was great, it kinda doesn’t know where to go from there though. Some good moments sprinkled throughout however and it maintained my interest.

It's popular across all age groups and everybody and their dog has access to Netflix. I liked it and there's probably going to be a lot of newbies who don't watch Asian cinema TV etc.

It feels like the deadly game concept is treated as brand new every time someone does it. Two things Squid Game has in its favor are the games themselves (which are interesting and intense) and the instant recognizability of its world. I saw about two dozen triangle guards on Halloween this year. I first heard about the show through my gf who heard about it through dumb TikTok reenactments. That memability seems to go a long way in today's entertainment.
