When I saw CORAZÓN DE LEÓN (HEART OF A LION), I said that the way the characters reacted when meeting a short man and also when finding out that he was dating a tall woman felt unrealistic. I guess I was wrong, because this concept has been so popular that there are 5 remakes from different countries (so far). All 6 movies have used camera tricks and green screen effects to hide the lead's real height. First of all, re-using the plot and characters is already lazy, but re-using a visual element like that is the antithesis of creativity! Second, different filmmakers want to teach why it's wrong to judge short people, even though they would rather spend extra time and money than hiring an actor that looks the part? Am I the only one who notices the hypocrisy? The only remake I've gotten the opportunity to watch is AMOR SEM MEDIDA (JUST SHORT OF PERFECT). What are some of the additions? Let's see... There's a scene where a man farts in front of his family for several seconds. And a scene where a Great Dane tumbles the protagonist (Ricardo Leão) and drools all over him. And an animated sequence during the end credits where Ricardo and Ivana Alvarenga (his girlfriend) are dressed like Snow White and one of the 7 dwarves (this is not offensive in the slightest, am I right?!). And a subplot about a gay wedding. Should I give the movie points for representation? No, because those 2 characters are practically extras. Plus, they host a weird combination of a bachelor party and an engagement party. No, really. We see their parents chatting while wearing semi-formal clothes and drinking wine while drag queens are dancing on a rainbow set. Look, I didn't like the original, but the broadness of the remake is making me appreciate it more. After all, it did try to be subtle and serious at times. I don't think it's a spoiler to say the following, since it happens in every romantic comedy: There was a point where it seemed like the main couple (León Godoy and Ivana Cornejo) weren't going to end up together (right before a sad montage), but it wasn't caused by anything specific. They were having an adult conversation where they acknowledged that they were thinking and feeling things they didn't want to. What happens here? There's a misunderstanding that could easily be solved if Ricardo asked Ivana about it directly, but instead he tells her that things aren't working out between them. The depth of this story has no limits!
