This seems like a quiet enough corner, perfect for discussing the following:
This is widely ridiculed as the worst dialog in all SW. But is it? Detractors take this literally at face value. But it's obviously meant as typical Lucas poetry & rhyming, describing the situation and the character's conflicts figuratively. This particular one means:
- (i) Star Crossed Lovers: Padme the aristocrat speaks of lying in the sand on beaches for fun, for Anakin sand symbolizes his lowly origins as a slave on Tatooine (desert planet = sand, get it?), - (i) Ghosts of the Past: Anakin’s agonizing situation regarding his dying mother calling him back home, but who he must ignore because of the Jedi code (attachments...). This conflict is the beginning of his downfall of course.
So, it's truly corny - maybe even rough and irritating - Lucas poetry, but it actually rhymes and reasons well, and it's adequate for the juvenile sithhead Anakin. There are far worse cringe-lines in the SWU IMO, such as "Droid, please", but that is a good question for another time...

I never had a problem with that line. And we shouldn't. It's actually one of the rare SW dialog with practical use. I ruined too many an electronic device or other stuff by careless use on terrestrial sand beaches; remembering and minding Lucas dialog could have saved me a lot of credits.

Corny dialogue is a tradition of the Star Wars franchise. I don't have a problem with any of the lines.

The line itself is corny.....yeah......but his feelings on it make sense because he's from a crappy desert planet, however the delivery is horrendous, and that is what turns a corny line into a laughable one.

but this line is pretty laughable , along with 85% of the dialogue in AOTC
"Got a boyfriend? Cute boyfriend?" this line is pretty laughable , along with 85% of the dialogue in TFA

Yes, Lucas went for something James Dean like, but the delivery is quite flat. Such a line must be uttered in a way that it is made clear that the character is discussing inner demons and anxieties, he should never sound like whiny Luke wanting to go to the Toshi station; Anakin has a different past. To be fair, the kid did some of the very difficult meltdown-scenes well. Apart from the over the top romance lines, I found Clones dialog pretty solid and quotable, some of the best lined stem from this film, and Obi's dry sarcasm ("Good Job" etc) is gold here.

It's a shame that when Anakin laid that line on Padmé that the popcorn munching zombies didn't get that Anakin was saying something about the things in life he had to live and was unhappy about vs. the things he desired. Yes, as you so eloquently explained, Jedan Archer - there were metaphorical meanings to his words. He was "saying something more to her without saying it" so to speak. It wasn't just a clumsy, lame pickup line only to be taken at face value. 👍

it was a fucking dumb line written for a child under 5 years old, dont delude yourself , oh furious, you crazy drunk man! Dude, do you really think that your typical 5 year old (or any fanboy with the intelligence age of 5) can understand allegorical lines and metaphors...? No, they take them as is, like you do...
Your foul mouthed rambling on the other hand could not be written by 5 year olds, but very well by a fanboy with an intelligence age of 5. Thus, it's nuanced.
uh, they are discussing AotC here dude, so: none, nil, nada! In TPM: one if I recall, like in Jedi, or was that just burbing on several occasions? lol dude, I suggest you urgently visit a bathroom, use some laxative if necessary (Marvel movies and TFA work furiously well in that regard, as you know).
Also, if these are children movies, how come you lack the intelligence to understend them?!? The OT maybe, but the PT with it's buring alive, politics and dark endings, no way Jose!

The ship is in the hands of your father....HAN SOLO ( Kylo probably had one of his moments of retardation and Snoke felt the need to tell him who his father is)

typical Lucas poetry & rhyming, describing the situation and the character's conflicts figuratively Personally I think you are over thinking this and giving more credit to Lucas than he deserves...it's a terrible line in a trilogy of films with bad dialogue

You disappoint me, my friend. 1. Either all six have bad dialogue, or none of them do. 2. The dialogue can still be affected and have subtext. 3. Personally, I think you are under-thinking this and falling into the staid, lazy malaise of blind prequel hate. Stop being a walking, breathing internet nerd stereotype.

The prequel trilogy is slightly worse than the OT...plus I wasn't sure if "Sixology" was a word, so I stuck with the 3. 2. As much as it can be shabby with no subtext 3. Not blind hate...there is a quick shot where some Stormtroopers emerge from a sandstorm in AOTC...I quite like that.
