I saw this film once, way back in the 1980s. So my memory is fuzzy.
The film was from the 70s or 80s and set during a war. I think World War II. There was a scene where the protagonist dreams he is back home and sees his friends outside, laughing and having a good time. The scene is surreal because it has this bronze/sepia tint and everything moves very slowly. When he gets to his friends one of them speaks in a slowed but happy voice. He says something like "We are all dead." He then wakes, remembering his friends died in action.
That's all I remember. Any help is appreciated.

It takes place between the two World Wars, but the scene you described reminds me of the dream sequence in "Papillon" which was made in the 1970's.

Hey! I think that might be it. It does seem very, very familiar. Thank you so much for replying.

You are welcome. If that's not it, hopefully someone else here will solve it for you.
