As someone who loves デジモンアドベンチャー (DIGIMON ADVENTURE) and デジモンアドベンチャー02 (DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02), I agree with most of what has been said about DIGIMON: THE MOVIE. Especially that old annoying trend where a dubbing company would take an anime and fill out the quiet moments with unnecessary dialogue and music (the beautiful scene involving bubbles floating over Tokyo is the perfect example). Everything is edited so quickly and there are several instances where 2 characters speak almost at the same time. It gave me a headache! However, I don't agree with fans who say that it was a bad idea to merge a couple of less-than-an-hour-long movies into an hour-and-a-half movie. The plots connect in a way that felt believable to me, and even if that hadn't been the case, it would've been an anthology film of sorts. That's an acceptable format. Also, it's not like the デジモンアドベンチャー (DIGIMON ADVENTURE) prologue, デジモンアドベンチャー: ぼくらのウォーゲーム (DIGIMON ADVENTURE: OUR WAR GAME!) and デジモンアドベンチャー02: デジモンハリケーン上陸/超絶進化!! 黄金のデジメンタル (DIGIMON ADVENTURE 02: DIGIMON HURRICANE TOUCHDOWN!!/TRANSCENDENT EVOLUTION!! THE GOLDEN DIGIMENTALS) were masterpieces that were ruined during this process. They were basically extended episodes except with inferior animation. Plus, they lacked the coming-of-age element that made the 2 series unforgettable. The third of those movies had an uninteresting villain and Takanori Arisawa's music score removed all the suspense (which made the fight scenes boring). The conflict involved the second generation of heroes (Daisuke Motomiya/Davis, Miyako Inoue/Yolei, Iori Hida/Cody, Takeru Takaishi/T.K. and Hikari Yagami/Kari Kamiya) trying to save their predecessors (Taichi Yagami/Tai Kamiya, Yamato Ishida/Matt, Sora Takenouchi, Kōshirō Izumi/Izzy, Mimi Tachikawa and Jō Kido/Joe). However, after the final battle, Hikari says that the first generation got back to normal. How lazy! Why not show it on screen? Because of this, those characters felt irrelevant to the story, which is why it didn't bother me that they were omitted from the American version.

Does デジモンアドベンチャーTRI. 第1章: 再会 (DIGIMON ADVENTURE TRI PART 1: REUNION) exist so that this new film series can retcon the ending of the second TV series? Maybe, but at least this installment is entertaining. Especially considering how much mediocrity this franchise has offered (I didn't rate the movies that weren't feature-film length, but I did see them). My main issue is that Taichi has an inner conflict that feels out of character considering what he's gone through. No, scratch that. It would've felt out of character in either of the TV series too, because of his personality. When it comes to the DigiDestined (that's how the heroes are known), I can see Mimi or Hikari going through something like this instead. Another issue is that, in the past, the instrumental portion at the beginning of a song would play during the digi-evolutions and the rhythm would match the images. At the end of the sequence, the singing portion would start. Here, these sequences are much slower and everything feels out of sync. Speaking of, why do Agumon and Gabumon go through each stage? It's been established that they can just go straight to the mega level. We see that Kōshirō talks and talks even though nobody listens to him. I kept waiting for the punchline, but it never came.

デジモンアドベンチャーTRI. 第2章: 決意 (DIGIMON ADVENTURE TRI PART 2: DETERMINATION) has what fans have been wanting for a long time: To see someone more of the Digidestined's partners reach their mega level! However, I don't think the road to get there was worth it. There was only 1 fight before the climax. The rest of the movie was about the human heroes trying to live their daily lives while trying to prevent people from seeing their beloved creatures. That also happened in the first series, but after 30 or so episodes of adventures and dark moments. It was a break that felt earned. Speaking of, after all this time, shouldn't Agumon and company know better than to be loud in public or wander off? Why does Leomon change size during scenes (he's not supposed to be barely taller than the humans)? When Gomamon digi-evolves to Ikkakumon, his pose is different than it was in the series... and it's unintentionally funny! I was glad that they addressed Mimi's egocentric attitude, something she never stopped having despite her development as a character... but then she acts like people had been trying to put her down and talks about doing what she wants without caring about what others think. The movie ends without following that up. Huh?

Even though デジモンアドベンチャーTRI. 第6章: ぼくらの未来 (DIGIMON ADVENTURE TRI PART 6: FUTURE) isn't the last installment, the following one wasn't announced until after the release of this one. Therefore, this was hyped as the one that was supposed to tie everything up and justify the retcons. Unfortunately, it leaves a couple of loose ends and it also doesn't answer questions that fans wanted to know after the end of the second series (especially in regard to the romances). Throughout the previous 5 movies, I kept wondering why Daisuke and company never showed up on screen. Here, it's revealed that they're missing. The other 8 Digi-Destined didn't notice that on their own?! Such great friends!

And speaking of the final battle, Angemon and Angewomon digievolve to Seraphimon and Holydramon/Magnadramon. It's presented as something common, but they had never done that before. Also, their main purpose isn't to fight but to help V-mon/Veemon and Terriermon digievolve to their golden armor form. Doesn't that give them the same strength as a Digimon in their champion level? Maybe ultimate level. Still, it's less powerful than the mega level, which is what Seraphimon and Holydramon are, so why don't they fight Cherubimon/Kerpymon on their own?!

And at the end, the viewer is informed that they're OK, but in a throwaway line! One of the subplots throughout this new film series is that the Digimon lost their memories. Here, they get their memories back. What's the point? They managed to bond with the humans regardless of the situation. Their dynamics weren't that much different.
