I like that people are smart and figuring things out this time around!
Monday Allie tells Chanel she saw Johnny kissing Gabi. Jake and Gabi try to convince Johnny to form an alliance with them. Gwen struggles to keep Abigail from uncovering the truth. Paulina and Tripp have an awkward encounter.
Tuesday Rafe declares to Nicole that he wants to be with her. Chad tells Xander about Abigail’s latest theory. Abigail finds herself in danger. Belle shares shocking news with EJ.
Wednesday Abe and Chanel share a warm moment. Marlena apologizes to Paulina for the havoc she wreaked while possessed. Movie producer TR Coates arrives in Salem and demands that Johnny deliver his film. Craig assures Nancy she has the wrong idea about him.
Thursday Craig makes a shocking confession to Chloe. Nancy urges Brady to reconcile with her daughter. Paulina's past catches up with her. Nicole and Ava try to outsmart the other.
Friday Paulina panics when Lani comes close to discovering the truth. Abigail learns she’s being held captive on an island. Belle supports EJ as they prepare for his sentencing. Xander tries to put the past behind him and moves forward with Gwen.

I’m really surprised how consistently good Days has been for a while now. The characters finally seem a little smarter and being written to their strengths. I still can’t stand that Rafe is making Nicole such a dull character again. I just can’t understand how he’s never been liked by the general audience since he started out on the show, yet still has leading male status. He obviously hasn’t had chemistry with anyone on the show except for Ava. I love how Ava is tormenting him. He’s been tormenting the audience with his presence for years. It’s strange, because he was actually very good on Passions. Oh well! We’re stuck with him for the long run, I guess?

Yeah I thought his chemistry with Sami was ok but I really did not like him with Hope at all. I thought he was good with Jordan tho! But I agree, I don't really know anyone who likes Rafe and yet there he is on our screen every day...we definitely are stuck with him! This is no reflection on my opinion of Galen, he seems lovely but Rafe sucks.
I'm glad the characters are smart. It's refreshing!
I wonder how Gwen is going to spin this? Once Xander and Sarah get back together and everyone knows she assaulted Abigail I don't think she has a place in Salem anymore!

It’s strange, because he was actually very good on Passions. Oh well! We’re stuck with him for the long run, I guess? It's been ages since I watched, but I have little doubt Rafe at least has changed much since I had (it's probably the same night since the last time I watched... 😏) Rafe has always just been so... I was going to say white bread or vanilla, but honestly that doesn't even do enough justice to just how dull he is. Rafe is a sack of flour. You can do a lot with a sack of flour, but if you bother to add anything else, you don't have anything remotely useful. They've never given him any interesting character attributes or quirks. He doesn't like to work on cars or have a gambling problem. He's not a hothead like Bo was, which I guess is a good thing, but considering how far they push the envelope with Gabby, it's so strange that they aren't will to do anything with Rafe that might make him the least bit interesting. I mean, has even just fooled around with a married woman on the show? Because pretty much everyone else has been a side piece at least once in their run; or been the one doin the cheating. It's a tired trope, but at least it'd be something. I had an idea way back with FakeRafe, that I thought would have been interesting, if Rafe started having these weird dreams and lapses in memory from around the time he was held by the Dimeras; and as he investigates, bits and pieces in his memory start to fall into place and he eventually find out that Rolf used his chip technology to give the FakeRafe access to the real Rafe's memories, to make him more convincing. But he eventually uncovers that there had been an incident where Rafe had escaped and was loose in the Dimera compound. FakeRafe caught up to him and actually killed him; which caused feedback in the chip, damaging FakeRafe's real memories and making him think he was the real Rafe. Basically giving him this crisis of identity and he doesn't know who he really is, sort of paralleling John's arc; and he has to cope with the reality that there's this side of him that isn't a good person, and is in fact the man who essentially killed him. I do recall way back - I think this was back when James Scott was still on the show, they flirted with the idea of pairing Nicole with Rafe; and at the time it didn't seem like a bad idea. Ari, at least once upon a time, was able to have screen chemistry with just about anyone. She could carry a scene with a mop. But from the sound of it lately they've dialed her down and sapped a lot of what made her so great to watch. And I think that's something the show has always struggled with, regardless of who's writing. They don't know how to write nuance into their characters; they either have to be doing something full tilt, off the wall crazy (of be the subject of the crazy), or they're the saintly, pearl clutching do-gooder. And when the take a character like Nicole and have her reform, they don't seem to know how to take that energy that made her so great to watch as an antagonist and channel it with her as a protagonist.

I wonder why the decision after all these years was made to have Craig Wesley come out as gay? I was never a big fan of Craig and Nancy as they would do anything and everything to claw their way to the top at the hospital and destroy Mike Horton. I know that Kevin Spirtas is openly gay and I wonder if this has anything to do with the storyline now. I also remember that he was rumored to be having an affair with Kyle Lowder back in the day. I can attest that while married to Kyle, Ariane was on a flight of mine and was on her laptop looking at pictures of her and another guy. They appeared to look like a couple in the pictures I saw. Anyway, I just thought that this seemed so off for the Wesley’s. The one consistently thing written about them was how much they loved each other although he was way too good looking for a woman like her. But it did make a good statement that people of size can be attractive to all different types.

Is that the big secret Craig has? I FF all their scenes because I can't stand them. I have no issues with Craig coming out, good for him - put Nancy out of her misery then. She was insufferable at their lame pub dinner.
Of all the characters in Days' history, these two rank super close to the bottom in terms of ones I want to see back. Such a waste of screen time.
I don't like them at all and never have - they were awful when they were first on, really trying to destroy Mike's life. And now they are overacting and saccharine...I can't deal. They both look terrible too (although I am not sure if this is because the lighting on the show is really favouring cool-white/blue tone lately which is not flattering to most people's skin...). Craig has always creeped me out, the character and the actor, but I never knew he was openly gay. I had always just heard about him being in porn and he just had that creepy porn star vibe to me...

As for the comments on Nicole, I don't know what they can do with her. She is all over the map. She has lost her zing and shades of grey but she still does bad stuff - like cheating on Eric and now cheating WITH Rafe...but she's turned into a pearl clutcher as you said, Stargazer. The only person she has any fire with is Sami. I miss the old Nicole.

It honestly doesn't surprise me that they'd have Craig come out, largely because Kevin is gay. I'm not sure why that was a pressing story to have now, seeing as neither character has been on canvas in ages, but that's the sort of thing where I feel like these writers don't know how to divorce that kind of fact about an actor from the character. It's a bit disappointing. Craig and Nancy were insufferable when they were plotting against Mike all the time, but - and it's been a long time - I do seem to recall that, after Mike was no longer around, I feel like they mellowed out quite a bit; and their stories started started making them more sympathetic and I rather liked them in the end. I thought the whole backstory with Nancy having Chloe and how she thought she had been conceived by a man that assaulted Nancy as a teenager was well done; and I liked them finding out that Craig was Chloe's biological father. Wow... I'm actually surprised I remembered that storyline; it just sort of came back to me... Yeah, I don't know. I didn't like them in the beginning, but I feel like they did win me later on. They ultimately played the relationship as a genuine one, that Craig and Nancy actually legitimately loved each other and it wasn't just some marriage of convenience; and this kind of seems like a reversal of that, which I'm not sure I care for from that perspective, but such is life.
