It was an issue between 2 men and they handled it like men. No outside intervention necessary. They handled it like 3 year old boys.

Rock handled ut in a quite adult way, de/escalating, not taking it further. Cudos to him for how he reacted. Could have gotten Much Much uglier.. imagine that beyin Kanye or JayZ who were being punched/slapped - on national tv, for one lame joke. We would get the commercials and they would get a full ln brawl I am convinced.

No, it wasn’t. Even if it seems Chris Rock took it in stride and carried in with the show. The joke that Chris Rock told was pretty tame compared to his usual schtick. I am a big Will Smith fan but he cast a dark cloud over what’s perhaps the most important night for his career. He did apologize to the Academy but he should reach out to publicly mend things and with Chris Rock. he'll likely not be nominated again. I dont think this will hinder his chances of being nominated at all… half of the people SUPPORT what he did, plus who knows how long it wilm be before he gets another Oscar worthy role…

Am I only person in the world to suspect this was staged? I asked elsewhere if there was anyone who was in that room last night when this happened, that can answer the following question (since our vantage point at home of the entire theater is VERY limited when seeing it on TV): At any point while Chris Rock was on stage, did ANYONE attached to security for the ceremony make ANY kind of move toward the stage during the entire time this whole thing played out ??They very well may have, and we just couldn't see it, but from what we COULD see on TV, it LOOKED like NO security got anywhere near the stage while this incident transpired. If they did NOT attempt to intercede in any way, then that would lead me to wonder if they may have been tipped off that they were not to go to the stage while Chris Rock was there, since they knew beforehand that SOMETHING like this was coming.... variety.com/2022/film/news/oscars-will-smith-chris-rock-slap-formal-review-discipline-1235217214/www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/academy-opens-formal-review-will-smith-oscars-incident-1235120995/SAVE FERRIS

I dont see it as possible.

I dont see it as possible. I too feel there was no way this was staged......yet there is something (most notably Rock's strange, almost giddy, NON-reaction to having just been assaulted by Smith) that leaves an unexplainable feeling that all was not quite what it appeared to be..... Who knows.........maybe now the J.F.K. assassination conspiracy will permanently be moved to the back burner if this one continues to fester for years to come !! variety.com/2022/tv/news/oscars-abc-will-smith-slap-chris-rock-rob-mills-1235217294/www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/oscars-backstage-will-smith-incident-1235121056/SAVE FERRIS

So, what part of bumfuck Appalachia do you hail from where children have spouses? Or is it Hollywood? Same difference.

no, of course not. Did he have 'roid rage'?
I don't think he will enjoy his jail cell for doing it, later . If you catch my drift.

I'll eat my words but yeah an incident like this would be how you ruin your career and reputation, look at what happened with Crowe after he assaulted a BAFTA producer in 2001, he basically not only likely was hindered during voting itself, but got snubbed for Master and Commander and Cinderella Man which were both very egregious.

We have a bunch of people in the world who have no respect for anyone else, and think it's perfectly fine to offend others without thinking, how in what they say, will affect them or others around them...
As I understand... Jada has some kind of medical condition, that has left her bald... If so... Any joke concerning her looks should never have been make... Chris Rock crossed that line and DESERVED some kind of a backlash response...
However, Will Smith should have let it slide, calmed down, and taken up the issue with Chris Rock backstage, not in front of the Camera with the whole world watching...
I am disappointed in how he handled the situation, but I am not surprised by it... I think most of us would be pissed too and would instinctively, would want to protect our loved ones from humiliation...
Sadly, in our instant Social Media era, where everyone has let "Freedom of Speech" go to our heads, most people tend to say and react to all kinds of things before thinking... and to make things worse, they don't even realize that what they are doing is offensive and hurting people...
This isn't about snowflakes not being able to take a joke... This is poor taste jokes, just this side of bullying... People need to start realizing the difference... But sadly, I don't think they will... It will just get worse.
Sometimes, I wish that next major asteroid would just crash into Earth already... Because I'm not convinced that most of us are were worth saving!
However, I do have to give my respect to Chris Rock for maintaining his composure and trying to laugh it off with people all over the world waiting to see what his reaction would be... I think WE all know, there was a part of him, that wanted to strike back.
RESPECT... it's not just a word... It's a way of life.
Hopefully, most of us try to live that kind of life...

I’m wondering if he overreacted because he laughed at first and then was angry at himself. Taking comedy hits is something stars are supposed to do so they laugh when they’re the target of the joke (which Jada Pinkett Smith didn’t do).

IMO, the restriction the Academy should apply is, that Will Smith will not be able to ever attend an Oscar presentation again, in any form. As an audience member, or a presenter. Not welcome.
He could be nominated again and win, but he would not be welcome at the awards show. He'd have to send a representative.
Anyone who thinks Smith's actions were provoked, deserved, warranted; should be reminded they were also illegal.

I’ve been shaving my head since college. I’ve heard countless Lex Luthor jokes. Would’ve been nice to have Will Smith around to slap a few people for me!

What do you think about Smith slapping Rock during oscars? Was it a legit (correct, morally ok, you approved etc) move on Smiths part? Here is the clip with the joke:
