Two directors not familiar with the term less is more
While both have their share of detractors, it could be argued that they're good at what they do
Which, if either do you prefer
Not exactly a fan of either of them, but based on what I've seen, I probably find Luhrmann's glitzy theatrics a little more interesting than Bay's explosive bombast

Michael Bay although I do really like some of Baz Luhrmann's movies.

I'll probably give Elvis a look. The subject matter could work with his OTT style. As far as Noir goes, maybe if he toned it down a little he could do a lurid gothic take on Sunset Blvd.

A cocaine overdose vs an acid nightmare. That's tough. I did unironically like Pain & Gain, which is more than I can say for Baz's movies.

I only Baz Luhrmann movie I saw was Romeo + Juliet which I liked so I'm going with Bay on the account that I've seen more of his work.

Bay although not a huge fan of either. The rumored Alexander film that Baz was supposed to direct with DiCaprio might have been interesting if Stone didn’t beat him to the punch.

Whichever one of them directed The Rock.

I feel a better argument for comparison is how frequently they tend to cut to different frames in scenes and how almost every single one is in some way dynamic - creating near endless sensation in brief periods of time. For this reason, they display this kind of cinematic attitude in Armageddon and Moulin Rouge!, but of the two I prefer Bay. Luhrmann's films don't really appeal to me much - just about every movie he has made I seen others do better, i.e. modernizing Romeo and Juliet; West Side Story had that beat by quite a bit of years.

Half of the movies on Michael Bay’s filmography, you would have to pay me to watch them, whereas I would gladly re-watch any of Baz Luhrmann’s movies.

Strictly Ballroom & Romeo + Juliet put Baz over the line.
