So why is this a story? I guess it helps get clicks when you make the article about Disney, even when the guy being quoted says everyone does it. And for the record, the VFX firms absolutely deserve additional compensation when the studios increase their demands, or make radical creative changes at the 11th hour. But again this type of thing happens in every industry at every level. I don't understand why this is a news story.

The fact that no MCU movie has ever won an Oscar for visual effects speaks volumes. And yes I`m not counting Spiderman 2.

You mentioned Spider-Man 2, it's the only VFX Oscar ever won by a CBM. It says more about the industry than it does about Marvel Studios. All those Fox X-Men movies, DCEU movies etc. never won either, so I don't see how it 'speaks volumes' about Marvel specifically.

It speaks volumes, because it is a category, the Academy usually gets right. The movie that wins each year have better effects. And all academy members can vote in this category. Under the current rules, the Executive Committee of the Academy's Visual Effects Branch selects up to ten films per year via secret ballot, which become the shortlist that the entire membership of the Visual Effects Branch votes after a presentation event held in Los Angeles called the Visual Effects Bake-off. Since 2009, the Bake-off voting narrows the finalists to five nominees (until then it was typically a maximum of three nominees). Once they are selected and announced, all Academy members can vote on the winner on their Oscars ballots. www.liveabout.com/academy-award-for-best-visual-effects-history-and-rules-4781792

Hollywood doesn't like CBMs, not just Marvel movies.

Marvel might create its own VFX house.
It's going to need to be massive to keep up with all of their shows.

Marvel Studios reportedly pays VFX artists 20 percent less than other studios and hire fewer people per movie.

The argument that I always see against it is that Marvel will just move their work to studios in countries with terrible union laws. Edit: One of the links posted above displays the problem with unionizing when studios have a the power: ILM unionized in the 90s, the studios threatened to send their work elsewhere, and the union devolved.

Marvel could just build more actual sets to cut down on the need for VFX in every frame. The Illuminati HQ was pretty much all green screen. Couldn’t the goofballs just find a freakin building to shoot in instead of CGIing the concrete walls?!

I do know what I’m talking about, fruitcake… Fruitcake, the throne room wasn't VFX doesn't mean there wasn't VFX used at all in the movie you made a blanket statement which got a reply. Reading is crucial. Expecting VFX or some of it not to be used in a blockbuster is a whole other level of stupid but that's for another discussion.

The fact that no MCU movie has ever won an Oscar for visual effects speaks volumes. And yes I`m not counting Spiderman 2. Volumes of comic books or actual books? That no MCU movie has ever won means nothing, just like if the MCU always won, it would mean absolutely nothing in the course of human events. Watch the damn movies, enjoy them or don't.

Superman the Movie (1978) did it first Just looked it up and it says it was a 'special achievement award,' which is funny because Star Wars beat out Close Encounters the previous year. So visual effects were so uncommon back then that they must not have had enough nominees, and just gave an Oscar to Superman.
