Before you tell me that is ridiculous, remember that Dr Strange was dropped from WandaVision because they wanted to avoid Dr Strange ‘mansplaining’ to Wanda.

Are our resident board wokesters happy with this? Were they ever thinking two steps ahead that wokeism would go too far?

…..No? Even the most recent X-men movie was just called The New Mutants. Honestly it was probably to not have any connection to the Fox movies which is understandable.

I'm pretty sure that's the case, but we'll know better if they actually change the name of the team or if they'll limit it to changing just the title. Title change only can mean it's simply an artistic change. But if they change both title and team name to something other than X-men, then feel like that makes it clear it's because they don't want the term "men" in the name.

Then why would they have Man in Spider-MAN? Because he’s a dude? X-Men is the name for both male and female mutants. I’m guessing they don’t want the name X-Men because there are women in the team as well. Not implying I agree with changing the name by the way.

Maybe they’re saving the name ‘X-Men’ for a team of transwomen?

They don't want to call it the same thing, because that'd be confusing? And it's called x men '97, because x men that started in 1992 ran until 1997. And x men 97 will take place in 1997. I guess.
Oh wait, maybe I got it wrong... Maybe the point is, they already have a thing coming out in 2023 called x men. So therefore , using that name wouldn't be a problem?
But maybe, they have to call it that, because what it's based on is called X-men. So in that case they have to use the same name. Because it's a continuation of xmen 1992 - 1997.
But they don't have to call the new x-men film x-men though, so possibly that's why they change it to the Mutants.

Yeah... not quite the same thing though. That link you posted was a show that's a direct continuation of a series titled X-Men. So obviously they wouldn't want to rename that because it's an already existing show. They rename it and they shoot themselves in the foot, losing whatever momentum the original show already had. In comparison, the movie we're discussing in this thread is a reboot (or maybe a reimagining), meaning it's a completely new continuity. If they had a problem with the name "X-Men" and wanted to change it then there wouldn't be anything else to stop them from renaming it other than brand recognition.

If they truly believed that X-Men is a problematic title, I would think they would’ve ceased using the title altogether at this point. We’re not even sure if the MCU X-Men film will be called ‘The Mutants’, so it’s pure conjecture at this point.

If the MCU truly disliked the name "X-Men", they still need to weigh that against the risk of trying to continue an existing series with a completely different name. The MCU has been doing a lot of stupid things lately but they're not complete fools. But again, that's neither here nor there since that cartoon series is not what were talking about. So let's go back to talking about the movie.

So let's go back to talking about the movie. I just can’t imagine why Disney or Marvel would take issue with the title to begin with. It’s been a thing for 60 years, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone who genuinely considers the title problematic. In fact, X-Men has consistently been praised as a progressive comic book series with a notable LGBT fanbase.
