I was hesitant to say it before but I think Johnny Depp may be done as a movie star. With the new Pirates movie underperforming I just don't see what else he can do to revive his career. I know he's supposed to be apart of Universal's monster-verse, but I honestly don't see that franchise taking off. The Mummy looks like it's gonna bomb. I wouldn't be surprised to see the whole shared universe cancelled after that.

It's both sad and fascinating to watch Hollywood go further and further into degeneration.
They think you can have art principles of Western Europeans and then remove them from the production and decision making. It just doesn't work.
We would be better off if they brought in Japanese, and let them handle the production duties if Hollywood hates whitey so much--because at least it would be competent and watchable.
Would be interesting to watch Japan make a film on the holocaust or "horwocaust" as I guess they would call it.

its collected more than 300 million worldwide already. how did it underperform? You mean 270 million worldwide Btw Johnny is part of the Fantastic Beast franchise, and a big part. He will have a prominent role in the sequel.

His talent is not going anywhere, he just needs to sort out his private life, lay Jack Sparrow to rest and choose his future projects with passion and care.

He's a bankable star. He certainly isn't "done." Not even Eddie Murphy is done.

He's set to play Invisible Man for Universal and honestly, I can see him miming a young Claude Rains if that's the route they're taking. He even sounds like him when he does that oddly pitched voice.

I doubt it. There has been talk of him playing Freddy Krueger in the next 'Nightmare on Elm Street' movie and Johnny Depp has said in a few interviews he would love to make a return to the Horror genre.

His days of being the Pirate are most likely over after this outing had a lackluster opening, but his overall career is far from over.

Maybe not done, but he has passed his prime. True, he is part of this "Harry Potter"-spin-off franchise, but is he really that irreplaceable as Grindlewald? The major part of his charcater in the first movie was done by Farrel, and most likely the character will continue to hide behind new aliases/characters and his Depp's part of a franchise remains rather small.
Anyway, what was the last big hit he carried?!

Pirates 4 was. But Into the Woods wasn't bad either when it comes to box office. Alice in Wonderland II was rather disappointing (if not a major flop), but I do not even know if he was part of it...but was he not the characters that fell ill...but ok, absolutely not my cup of tea. Pirates, ok, that is a bigger franchise and Jack Sparrow was (is) his last iconic role so far. But Pirates 5...how is it doing, also without the other co-stars like Bloom or Kneightly? Into the Woods...hm, I think Streep was once more stealing the show, and in "The last Midnight" she was so beautiful albeit she ins't the youngest lady. Depp was rather bland imho. The last movie I liked with him was Dark Shadows. Like I said: he is not done, but he is also no longer an A-liser per default.
