Yes. I purchase several Pre-paid "Mastercard" Debit Cards to use for online purchases...
I have some which don't have much money left on them... It's a trick to spread out various purchases among the cards, to keep their final values low... But, I think it's impossible to get ZERO balances on most cards, and so, Some money will always be lost when using them... But, when it comes to other fees that consumers face with other forms of payments, it's actually less. Even if thrown away, you save money in the long run.
I've got one card with $1.15 left on it... It's not enough to really buy anything with... It's still usable for about 10 years, so maybe someday in the next decade, I'll have to take all those leftovers to the drug store, and buy a bunch of sodas and candy with them to finish them off... LOL!
After that 10 years, I guess Mastercard keeps those leftovers.

Perhaps OT but related ....
Work one Christmas gave out, as a Holiday bonus, $25 gift cards from a local big name grocery store ... turns out that even though they were paid for they had an expiration date and are not valid after that date ... it said NOTHING about this on the cards. Have to wonder how many other's "lost" their bonus by not using the cards "in time". "Work" paid all that $$$$ to the store for something that perhaps was never redeemed.
Plus ... have a couple from restaurants that I never frequent BUT have checked, and they have no expiration date ! As long as they don't go belly up and close, the cards should still be good ...someday.

I have two unused Starbucks gift cards for $5 each, a Dillards gift card with $22 left on it, and a gift card for a 1-hour session at Massage Envy. I've had them all for several years, so the odds are pretty good that I'll always have them. But who knows, maybe someday I'll need a new pair of socks that I can't afford.

Nope. Honestly, I usually just buy essentials with them, & pay a remaining $3-5.
I've a feeling in a 100yrs, ppl will be studying the premise of gift cards as weird relics.

I’ve wasted 2 gift cards that I know of. A $50 Coles one I never used (I don’t know why I didn’t use it) and it lapsed. And a $30 Dick Smith one and then months later Dick Smith went insolvent before I had a chance to use it.

I have a gift voucher that's been with me for years from 'DC Books'. It doesn't have an expiry date.

I know I have a Tommy Hilfiger gift card that I got at Christmas last year. Haven't got around to using it yet because I have SO many business casual dress shirts. I also have a Starbucks gift card. Worth $15, so that MIGHT buy me a drink. Looking thru my wallet, I didn't even realize I still had a gift card from Harvey's (burger joint) to use up. I think there was only something like $8 on it, but still..... Joker's Wilde

Yes, but they're not for me.
Between august and December, I have 30+ gifts to buy. 11 birthdays. Those same 11 get a holiday gift.
So that's 22
Then there's 11-15 more people to buy for around the holidays.
So I start early.
I get gift cards to places I know they actually go to and will use

Should be a law against expiration dates on gift cards OR IF there is an expiration date ... That date needs to be printed in BIG and BOLD on the cards.
