So, I’m not sure what to say, except that I just flew American on Saturday and didn’t hear anything like this.
I have zero technical knowledge about PA systems, so I can’t even begin to guess on this mystery. But this professional hacker’s thread is worth reading, even if he ends it with (spoiler alert!) an “I don’t know”:
Here’s a little mystery for you: there are multiple reports of a mysterious voice grunting, moaning, and groaning on American Airlines’ in-flight announcement systems, sometimes lasting the duration of the flight — and nobody knows who’s responsible or how they did it.
