Just curious. Seems like the CW never gets any talking points here. My love for history comes from a trip to Gettysburg when I was 12 years old. A family trip to Virginia with a stop at Busch Gardens, which I was looking forward to. But a side trip to Gettysburg. When you come into it from the West, it's non-stop farms for miles and miles and miles. Yawn. Until you get to the 1st days battlefield and the huge equestrian statue of John Reynolds. Seen that and I was hooked. I wanted to know everything about Reynolds and what happened there. My parents bought me the American Heritage Picture History of the Civil War. With the magnificent photos and the text written by Bruce Catton. We tired to find out if our first ancestor who came over fought at Gettysburg but he didn't. He joined NY cavalry regiment that didn't see action until 1864. After the War, he stayed in the regular army until 1878. Joined the 7th Cavalry but stayed behind and didn't go with Custer to the Little Big Horn.

We went to Gettysburg and he had to read all the explanations and figure out where they advanced, etc. we also went to Little Big Horn. That is fascinating, too. Glad about your relative!
