After possibly its spiciest season in 4, 5 was a dull waste of time. It felt like a 10 hour teaser trailer for a season, rather than a season in its own right. Like, the whole thing was presumably building up to Diana's death for instance, but then ended before she even started dating Dodi. So are they prolonging Diana's role as long as possible for ratings or did they skip over all that entirely for "good taste" reasons?
What we actually got in season 5: Elizabeth feels entitled to a boat, Charles has backdoor meetings where nothing is accomplished, Phillip fixes a carriage, Margaret stops existing for 9/10 episodes, some Egyptian guy has a huge boner for the monarchy and his kid makes Chariots of Fire, all meanwhile Diana being sad and horny. The only thing Judi Dench should be bitching about is boredom.
Also have to say, I was disappointed with the new cast, sans Manville who reminds me of the past Margarets but is barely in it. Staunton and Pryce may as well be playing completely different characters. McNulty and his nonstop mouth twitching were distractingly miscast as King Chuck. Then Debicki might trick you into thinking she's Diana when she's sitting down, but come on. She's 6 fucking 3.

I had a running joke with my ex/family that Debicki's impression of Diana was 90% her with her head tilted looking up with a demure look in her eyes. And they made that the thumbnail for season 6.
