Mine is Bill Haley & His Comets.
Who is your favourite rock artist of the 1950s?

The King! I've been a huge Elvis Presley fan since I was a small child and especially starting around 2003ish (An American Trilogy really got my attention). I even went to Graceland, Sun Records and other places around Memphis, TN in 2005. I used to post on several messageboards, too.
I'm a huge fan of his ballads, especially. And I love his live recordings. I have thousands of .mp3s on my hard drives. Overall, my favorite period of his career is 1968-1977. Absolute peak for me is 1969-1973.
But of course, the '50s started it all. He made his first recordings including My Happiness at Sam Phillips' Sun Records in 1953 and his first releases were That's All Right/Blue Moon of Kentucky in 1954. He started at RCA in 1956 with Heartbreak Hotel. The rest is history.
I'm also very fond of the Killer a.k.a. Jerry Lee Lewis, as well as the Platters. Bringing in the '60s here, but the Righteous Brothers and the Beach Boys are other all-time favorites of mine.

I'll go with The King. Buddy Holly would be right up there, too.

Johnny "Guitar" Watson This song is from 1954 and it sounds like early 1960s.

Mine is Bill Haley & His Comets. Who is your favourite rock artist of the 1950s? Why were they his comets? Doesn't that seem a little unusual? As to your question, I'd agree with the favorites: Elvis, Buddy Holly, Bo Diddley, Ray Charles. How about Sinatra? I know nothing about his work in the 50's but just throwing him out there.
