Anybody has seen Tár? A Todd Field (Little Children, loved it) movie starring Cate Blanchett. m.imdb.com/title/tt14444726/I went in completely blind, not having read the logline not knowing the genre, plot, atmosphere or anything. I really disliked it in the first 45 minutes. Slow and Very complex character study. Lesbian (which on its own is not a problem at all, some of my favorite movies have lesbian main characters, but somewhere between Carol and Ammonite I started to see a pattern I was not enjoying anymore because it felt overused. “the secret love and secret suffering) main character. I was worried it was once again the same schtick. But no, Tár was an openly gay woman, confident and intriguing and seemed happy in her skin. That was a pleasant surprise. But the film was still quite slow and the subject was not something I was much interested in - classical music showed via symphonic orchestra conducting and associated competitions. But! About and hour in it started to get interesting and 2 hours in I was falling in love with it and still had 40 more minutes to go. Last 20 minutes were top notch. Acting, directing, script, cinematography, all worked and the story fell into a beautifully odd but very well crafted intriguing place. Anybody saw? 8/10

Strong performance from Blanchett in a movie that I found quite dull otherwise. I'd probably give it a 6/10, but Blanchett gets a bonus point, so 7/10.

It looks pretentious to me. Why is it so long, as the boring aspect is the main criticism I’m hearing and what is with Blanchett and her lesbian roles? yeah I wasnt excited about the lenght either but its one of those movies that gets better as time passes.

Loved it, so far my favorite film of 2022
Some of the things I particularly liked about it
The bold move of opening with what would normally be the closing credits
The cold, slow burn, Kubrickian atmosphere, some of the "smaller" scenes like when she's talking to her mentor in the cafe reminded me of Eyes Wide Shut for some reason. I am aware Field had a small but pivotal role in that film
The excellent sound design
Cate's Stellar performance
Some of longer scenes, particularly the opening interview reminded me a little of similarly extended scenes in Ryusuke Hamaguchi's Happy Hour
The surreal touches toward the end
The extended coda
If anythng I would have liked it to be a little longer, I think the denouement came a little too suddenly and I would have liked even a couple more scenes in the SE Asian coda
9/10

Yeah the credints in the beggining thats also bold. Overall a movie worth a rewatch, dont you think? And I rarely say / feel that.

Definitely worth a rewatch I think, sure there are a few subtleties I missed. Very immersive, glad I made the effort to see it at the cinema.
