Why is it so crucial for the ghost's investigation that Lang was already a member of the political party in England in 1975 while he asserts he came to politics through his wife which he met later, in 1977? Lang seems to want to suppress this fact without a clear reason. Ruth sems to work for the cia so she could have influenced him. But that works independant of his joining the party.

"...I haven't read the book but the movie implys he was not political at all. Whether he knew and was just a face or didn't know either way its clear the wife makes the decisions and controls him. He even defers to her more than once about what to do about the ICC. I think the wife did everything she could to make her husband not look connected to USA. She tried to get him to fly back to London when the ICC wanted him. I think she had his card back dated to 1975 so it wouldn't appear he got into polotices because of her or Emmett. They dated it before. He was just an actor. A puppet she could control. Emett couldn't run. She had ties to the states so they found a good looking completely British guy they could control."
