Maybe The Marvels or GOTG 3 will win one.

I'm just glad that Brandon and Michelle won. Well deserved for both of them.

Avatar was nominated for 9 Oscars, which included Best Director and Picture. I think that about sums up their quality/relevance.

I don't know why they are so afraid of Cameron, but we all know it's an average movie and certainly not award worthy. Just look at all the articles about it. Just box office totals. No one talks about. There's no fanbase. It's place in pop culture is nonexistent. But it's an award worthy movie?

Don't get me started on Avatar. It's the mystery of the ages. The movies everyone apparently sees, but nobody quotes, references, or brings up in any conversation about any genre of film, ever. It's bizarre.

I think there's a few factors.
1. The Aliens and Terminator guy disappeared (from film making) for 12 years; and that was fresh off Titanic. People were interested in his comeback movie. Then he did it again but for 13 years this time. It's pure hype.
2. It's his followers seeing it over-and-over. They are is obsessed with he is about his place in the standings.

Hype is definitely a factor, the audience is told over and over that this is unlike anything they've ever experienced, and they buy it. But there should be more to a movie than effects. The story is generic (isn't the exact same story in both of them?), the dialog sounds like it was written by a 9 year old, and the characters are completely forgettable. I saw the first one once on tv, never bothered with the second one. There's just nothing there. I couldn't name a character if my life depended on it. Ask people on the street (or the internet) to name famous movie characters or make a famous movie quote, see how long it would take to find an Avatar reference. It's wild.

I never saw the first one after the my initial viewing either. Didn't care. Never bothered with the sequel either.
I don't disagree with anything you said.

Angela Basset did a fine job, but let’s be honest it would’ve been ridiculous to give it to her. She’s not even in that many scenes.

But Angela still has her Golden Globe which is more than most CBM actors can say.

Just shut up, man. If your goal is to make nobody ever take anything you say seriously, mission accomplished.
