Looking up the definition on the Urban Dictionary, the worksburger, a staple of every greasy spoon in Australia is said to be a uniquely Australian gourmet item.
Really? Do other countries have works burgers?
Short for a burger with the works, usually the regular patty, lettuce, tomato, beetroot with the addition of cheese, bacon, egg, pineapple slice, maybe even avocado.

We dont use beetroot, we use pickles. No egg, pineapple nor avocado. If ours says "the works," it can have chili or onions

I'm in a Tex Mex area so it would have guacamole on it. They even put Fritos on burgers here

Here in WI-hey, the works would be the burger, at least 3 cheeses, not including the fried cheese curds, sliced brat, and the the brat & burger cooked in beer.

When I think of a standard burger with the works that would mean lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup, & mayo. Though I have seen plenty of places call it the works and add in all kinds of things. A popular one here in Jersey is a burger with Taylor Ham (Or it's also called Pork Roll and people get unnecessarily heated about which to call it) egg, and cheese. Very tasty!

I am all for a fried egg on a burger, but beetroot or pineapple is something an alien would put on a burger!

Yes, pineapple crosses the line, even worse than on pizza, but why would anybody in their right mind spoil a good burger with pickles? Beetroot though, it comes from heaven, or maybe Mars.

If I am assembling my own burger from a wide variety of possible toppings, I don't think I would add pickles - but if I order from the menu and the one I want have them, I wouldn't necessarily say "hold the pickles", either.
I quite like beets, but it would never occur to me to put them on a burger.

A burger with the works may be more commonly called The Whopper. For me that is the only way to eat a standard burger with the works. As for Taylor Ham, I grew up in New Jersey and I never cared for it.

I can imagine that egg and cheese might enhance the flavor. One of these days I think I will try that.

Is the beetroot cooked or raw or pickled ? Sliced and còoked, from a can. Thinking about the taste, it probably is slightly pickled. I'm going shopping today. I will get a can.
