Your side has already lost the woke wars. The films being released now were made a couple of years ago when the out-of-touch suits actually thought that wokery was what the public wanted. With crashing share prices, executive firings and MCU films losing money, I think we’ve seen the peak of woke Hollywood. But don’t worry. What will result will be films of a higher quality which everyone will enjoy more, including you. Don't watch "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner?" or "In the Heat of the Night", you'll go mad. I love In the Heat of the Night. I’ve never seen GWCTD but I know the plot. I think you’re conflating wokeness with racial equality. They are two different things. Now they’re replacing Dr Strange in WandaVision because he’s a white male and considering changng the name of the X-Men because it’s sexist. Wokeness isn’t about equality so much as ridiculousness.

I think you’re conflating wokeness with racial equality. They are two different things. Historically, that is literally what the term is meant to be associated with and where it came from. You are a complete and utter ignoramus.

Prominent liberals in the media, many of whom you may indeed respect (like Bill Maher and Ricky Gervais) disagree with your definition yet you retort full of anger and vitriol to tell me the ‘real’ meaning of the term. I tell you what. You keep using the word in accordance with your own preferred definition. And when you’re seen as an idiot or a dinosaur, you’ll deserve it.

You’re a fool for linking a video about the ‘real’ definition of ‘woke’. History is history and the facts about the history of "woke" don't care about your feelings or your utterly ignorant delusions about what the term was meant to refer to or where it came from. Grow up and deal with it. Those two idiots are as ignorant as you are. I tell you what. You keep using the term in accordance with your own preferred definition. And when you are seen as an ignorant loser, you'll deserve it.

I don't stand with Power Ranger, but Ricky Gervais was awarded an upper second-class honors degree from the University of London in Philosophy and dabbled in the study of Biology, and Bill Maher is a graduate from Cornell University with a double major in English and History. You may disagree with some or all of their views regarding certain topics, but they're definitely not dim lights.

I’ll grant you that the term currently has broad and contradictory definitions but for you to cling to it’s historical definition is pointless. I’m sorry that the word has been hijacked but denying it won’t change that fact. Anyway in time we’ll see where the definition of the term settles. My prediction is that it won’t be where it started. The blue-haired activists on Tik-Tok have already corrupted it. Most people associate it with pronouns and drag queen story hour. I guess the black activists will have to find another word LOL.

I’m sorry I was rude to you faustus5. I really don’t like being rude to anybody. Life is too short for that. Contrary to what you may think of me, I don’t want films to be irresponsible on social issues. I just don’t want them to focus on such things so acutely when they aren’t even delivering a good product. I don’t think that helps any perspective on the political spectrum.

The history of the term means little to it’s accepted definition. You literally said, in plain English, that it was a mistake to "conflate" the word with racial inequality. But not only is that how African Americans have been using the word for decades, it is to this very day part of the definition when you look it up in a dictionary. No, cupcake, this part of its meaning never changed, ever, at any point.

It depends which dictionary you’re looking at. www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/wokeWhich is my definition of the term and the definition which is gaining traction. Minority groups can continue to use the term but shouldn’t expect everyone else to agree.

You conveniently and dishonestly left out the fact that your very own dictionary citation mentions racial justice AS THE FIRST AND PRIMARY MEANING OF THE TERM. The one you pulled from the dictionary is only its secondary, less important, meaning. Nobody gives a crap if you have a private definition of a word. Words have public meanings and you either understand them or you don't. By claiming that it was a mistake to "conflate" the term with racial issues, you demonstrated that you don't know what the word means.
Are you grown up enough to admit you made a mistake or are you going to dig in like a child?

The dictionary gave two definitions. Even within the entry for first definition is this: Now which context do you think I was using in this thread? So when formersam suggested that I would likely disapprove of racial equality with his ITHOTN and GWCTD, I said that he was conflating racial equality with wokeism. Which would be incorrect in this context. Thanks for playing.

It’s not a ‘private’ definition. It is in the dictionary. More importantly, it is a definition that is gaining traction faster than your understanding of the word and I’d suggest that it’s the dominant usage of the word. Right-leaning media uses it A LOT. Your interpretation on the other hand is used by African Americans and a small amount of leftists. But has it entered the lexicon of the mainstream media? Does CNN use it daily? Nope. But Sky News Australia does. As does Fox News. What I’m saying is that the mainstream hasn’t even embraced your interpretation of the term.

The dictionary gave two definitions. Even within the entry for first definition is this: You are lying.
The first definition from YOUR dictionary citation says "aware of and actively attentive to important societal facts and issues (especially issues of racial and social justice)" That is the primary meaning of "woke".
Actually, you said he was conflating wokeism with racial equality, which is the primary meaning of the word, meaning he was correct and you were wrong.

It’s not a ‘private’ definition. It is in the dictionary. Your definition is objectively the secondary, lesser used meaning of the term. Your own dictionary citation makes this plain. It is objectively not the dominant usage of the word, according to the dictionary. My interpretation is the primary meaning of the word according to the dictionary. The mainstream definition of "woke" is the primary definition appearing in the dictionary, which does indeed refer to awareness of racial injustice.
You are simply, demonstrably wrong and the evidence of your own citation proves this.
Are you going to continue to be a child and not admit you made a mistake, or are you incapable of growing up?

That thread was meant to poke fun at the fact that the word is used by everyone from every part of the political spectrum for their own purposes, and thus has no real meaning anymore. Ironically, this is precisely what happened when everyone from every part of the political spectrum posted completely different definitions that conveniently fit their own views. Basically, y’all got ACKBARED. You’re welcome.
