I broke a few ribs on one side of my body when I took a fall three weeks ago... Absolute agony, if you know you know.
Knitting back together slowly now.
Here's the thing... Dennis, our rescue cat living with us for 8 years now, has become insistent on cuddling up against my ribs on that side at every opportunity.
I keep waking up, and there he is curled against those ribs, and purring away.
Does he know I'm in pain? Is he trying to help me?

Maybe he thinks his purring will help the bones knit?

I have a cat that curls up next to my heart when I am in pain from a migraine headache or from having a broken heart. I recently lost a long-time good friend who died unexpectedly. When I got the text telling me what had happened, I curled up in bed and within seconds, he was curled up next to my rib cage, heart underneath. He knows things. I had another cat that got me through 8 months of chemotherapy when I was only 35. He kept me going until my husband got home from work and took over the care and feeding duties. And yes, both cats are/were rescues. P.S., I call it a 'cat scan'!

Hmmm, I wouldn't assume altruism.

Itβs possible. Or theyβre trying to push you off the bed.

A few people think that the vibration of purrs is healing. Regardless I believe cats pick up on way more than most people give them credit for.

Is he causing extra pain? My cat spends more time with me in bed when I'm sick. Not sure if he knows I'm under the weather or if it's just him being lazy and taking a free nap.

Would you call it a cat-astrophe?
