Finallygot a chance to watch Hereditary. Enjoyed it very much but Toni Collette makes the movie superb.
I wish I had seen it earlier as it has been out so long and I read so many things about it that I wish I didn't know ahead of time. Still I very much enjoyed it.

A very Happy New Year to you rogerthat .
This does look like a really good film here from it's storyline write up surprisingly I have not heard of or seen it before either .
Thanks so much for this movie recommendation here .

Not much of a New Year’s horror film, outside of some end of the year decorations & a party in the opening sequence. British film-maker Norman J. Warren (Inseminoid, Prey, Terror) delivers quite a weird, and ludicrous low-budget horror hybrid that starts of like a cheerful slasher before turning into a supernatural hodgepodge of random surreal ideas, and tacky SFX. Think of Humongous, Evil Dead & The Shinning patched together, but way more amateurish. It’s messy, and kind feels like something the Italians would churn out. Silly and confusing stuff, but there are some well crafted FX murders.

Ju On: The Grudge (2002)After rewatching the American remake and its sequels over the last couple days... I had the urge to dig out the Japanese version. And boy, the ominous mood and creepy imagery still manages to linger. Easily making my skin crawl, no matter how many times I revisit it.

Scouts Guide To The Zombie Apocalypse (2015)
Another one of those movies that turned out much better than I expected. Lots of originality, outrageous yet funny gross-out gags, and clever writing. Everything a gory zombie comedy should be. Tons of fun.

*Finally* watched... "Hereditary". I dug the slowburn and Toni Collette was great. True it borrows from several movies. But for me the performances elevate it.
"Annihilation" Aside from some pacing issues that take away from the action... I enjoyed the movie. Some haunting beautiful imagery and musical score.

Ghost Ship (2002)
Too in your face and 'loud' for my taste, but I rather liked the story itself.
6/10

A tight and rather respectable slasher that also deals with divorce from a child's point of view in a surprisingly fair way. Stephen McHattie makes a compelling antagonist, even if the movie kind of squanders his talents/charisma. It also squanders many minutes on making fun of a character for being obese, but that's beside the fact. Think a Friday the 13th crossed with Duel mixed with with a little family drama. 7/10

I like how it takes time to let the characters and circumstances unfold, giving it a certain sincerity in its story building. A couple well-done shock moments and a better than expected cast too.

Looks like the 1977 film recently got a DTV sequel The Car: Road to Revenge... which looks more like a Death Race sequel, and a plot skipping the mystery of the original in favour of a bog-standard revenge from beyond the grave storyline. The only real connection to the original is Ronny Cox supposedly is involved.
