Today, I had a health-orientated variaton Portuguese grilled sardines supper with salad and potatoes.
Sardinhas Assadas
Now, as the clocks go forward an hour, I'm listening to interviews with veteran wrestler Justin Credible (Peter Polaco, aka. Aldo Montoya) and drinking Mateus rose' wine ("the original of Portugal"). Portuguese cuisine always delivers.

Any food favourites from Portugal?
Thanks!

Those sardines bring back good memories. Before my trip to Portugal, the only sardines I knew of were from cans, and I was never a big fan - but the grilled ones that they serve in Portugal? Oh my God, they were delicious!
I love all the different cod dishes and the cod fritters. The desserts are pretty good too.

You're a keen historian, Jep Gambardella. I hear Lisbon in Portugal is one of the oldest cities in Europe, so there's a lot of history (including in culture and cuisine) right there.

I used to love sardines. I used to eat them grilled at the waterfront when I lived in Greece, they also grilled mackerel and some other tiny fish. Mackerel doesn't seem to be popular in the U.S. but it is a very delicious fish.

I like mackerel too. Versatile fish when it comes to cooking. I like mackerel curry.

My Grandma made sardines and Mackerel like that! Did you make it? A restaurant? Wish I'd been there eating with you!

I cooked up some quick fish, it was pretty basic (I'm sure your grandma would have known exactly how to season).

Enigma, I thought of you the minute I saw the photograph. I know that you have a Portuguese heritage.
I, too, have only had sardines from cans. Now, I'm going to set about finding/cooking "big peoples'" sardines.
Thanks, Petrolino!

Google tells me that Whole Foods has fresh sardines, along with a few selected sea food places. I'm going to call my two favorite "complete" butcher shops, tomorrow, to see if they have them, as well.
