You may select up to five items, but please comment if you enjoy more than five. I realize there are trolls on these boards, but I doubt they can hurt you. "Hiking" as used in the list means a leisurely perusal of nature. You may of course comment on other meanings. Please do not depend on the list to be comprehensive, or even well constructed. It is mainly just to start you thinking about what sorts of activities you find spiritual. It is not intended to pit activities against each other. It is hoped you will comment thoroughly. Atheists need not renounce your atheism to enjoy any of these activities (except maybe the Lord's Table). If you are too young to remember the Beatles, George Harrison became an especially spiritual Beatle (My Sweet Lord), John Lennon was a different sort (Imagine, Instant Karma). Harrison was perhaps closer to "orderly" religion. Please feel free to comment on your favorite hymns if you have any, or performers of religious music you like. Please do not check activities if you do not do them "spiritually." If you ride a bicycle for mere transportation, it probably shouldn't count. I wish I could offer you free doughnuts and beverages, but it's a computer board.

My primary spiritual activity is trance work. I had taken a break for years, but I recently decided to give it another try. It was like waking up from a long hibernation, reconnecting with something ancient and profound. It was really nice, although I'm still not sure if I'll continue with it. Sometimes it makes me feel too otherworldly, but if I can keep a good balance between the spiritual and mundane, it might work. Other than that, walking in Nature is special to me. It can be during the day, out in the wilderness among the sunshine and flowers and trees and wildlife, or at night, under the silver moon and a sea of stars. I consider hiking to be a more strenuous activity and it might not be particularly spiritual. Music is also a favorite spiritual activity. I play mostly stringed instruments these days (piano, harp, cello, guitar, guzheng, etc). I also sing. Strangely, I don't seem to like to listen to music very much anymore. Not sure why. I like restoring houses. Sometimes turning a dilapidated old house into something beautiful almost seems like magic. Even spring cleaning can be a spiritual activity. I enjoy talking about spiritual philosophy on RFS, although it's usually just the same old battles between the atheists and the Christians, which gets a little monotonous after a while. Thank you for the thread that offers something a bit different.

Meditation Parks (with or without picnics) Camping (overnight) were the only three things I could check, technically, though hiking is sort of implied in two of them. Had 'religious music' been simply 'music', I would have checked that. You have inspired me to think more positively about fixing up my house. Other things prevented any repairs or upgrades for a number of years, and now I have to convince myself that it is possible to tackle it. It seems so overwhelming. I need to acknowledge and appreciate every small step I make.

I need to acknowledge and appreciate every small step I make. I'm sure you can do it! Just make sure to pace yourself, start small and focus on one area so you don't feel too overwhelmed. My house was a complete disaster when I started working on it. It had been standing vacant for over 5 years, and the roof went bad and no one realized it, and it did a lot of damage to the plaster walls and ceilings. Plus, the last time the house had been updated was in the early 1970s, with parts of it probably dating back to the 1940s. The woodwork was covered in layers and layers of horrible lead paint, and the outdated wallpaper was stained and curling. The house was such a wreck that they were planning just to tear it down, because everyone thought it was worthless and too old and decrepit to fix up. So, I decided to adopt it. It was my grandparents' old house, and I have a lot of good memories here. Of course, everyone tried to talk me out of it, insisting that it was a terrible house and I shouldn't waste my time on it. Fortunately, I didn't listen. I could always see the potential, and I'm sure I'm the first person in well over a century to actually love the house. Today, there isn't anywhere else on Earth I'd rather live. Even if I won the lottery, I still wouldn't change a thing. This is definitely my happy place. Sometimes you just have to take a chance and see what you're capable of. It's amazing what we can accomplish if we just try.

Not sure i would count most of the things listed as spiritual activates, only four of the things i would count as spiritual activities.

Parks, hiking, vigorous, star gazing, coffee.
I could pick about 10 of these very easy. I really figure that everyone meditates. I haven't been camping in a while. I had a pup tent about 5-10 years ago and I was the only one in parks who used a tent among all the campers, and it was kind of embarrassing. It has since withered away.

I checked parks & coffee from the choices (am not sure how tea and coffee fit into spirituality but whatever).
Some other pursuits I consider spiritual are:
Reading anything Attending live theater (plays), especially Shakespeare. Great movies. Watching Doctor Who and Star Trek (a crossover would make my head explode) Writing (stories, diary, memoir, movie and/or book reviews, poetry, you name it) Music of just about any style or genre as long as you can lose yourself in it.

In some parts of the world tea is not just a beverage, it is a ceremony.

We're so much alike! Except I prefer a cola and the Choral to the Ninth Symphony.

Yes, I know that, but I was thinking of our own western culture which doesn't prize the beverage as highly. I also know that some people believe coffee to be the magic elixir of life - and I tend toward that opinion myself - but not as a spiritual journey. I appreciate your spiritual experiences with The Ninth.

I like to read the wise old sayings on the Celestial Seasonings tea boxes. They have become more lame at that lately though.

I would probably call tea a spiritual experience for me. I like to drink it sitting on the floor, bathed in the morning sunlight. It's just part of my daily ritual, taking a few minutes to sit in quietness and contemplation, and just enjoying the moment. I don't drink alcohol at all. My body seems to think it's poison. But after seeing all the horrible effects of alcoholism and the stupid things people do while drunk, I'm kind of glad I don't have to deal with that. I'll just stick with my green tea, thanks.

I don’t really know what “spiritual” means because I don’t know what “spirit” means. And nobody can ever properly explain to me what it means without appealing to something supernatural which cannot be demonstrated. Therefore, since it has no meaning to me I’m inclined to say “none”.
