Born in Hawaii, part Hawaiian and looks Hawaiian but not Hawaiian enough? Probably plenty of people not liking this casting but media won't make an issue of it like they did with people not liking the casting in Little Mermaid and how they are all racists. People don't like the casting of Nani because the actress is too white even though looking like a visible minority. The Tweet was retweeted by a racist schoolboard member who still has her job. Also, have the rules been changed in regard to who is or isn't Native? A person of African descent born in Britain not really British? Even if they have a white Native grandparent? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siena_AgudongSiena was born in Kauai, Hawaii to parents Karen and Kenneth Agudong.[1][4] She is of Hawaiian, Filipino, and European descent.[5][6] She has an older sister, Sydney, who inspired her to act.[7]
Siena attended King Kaumuali‘i Elementary School and Island School. She then switched to online school for her acting career.[8]

Well, I lived in Hawaii for a long time (as a kid and then as a teenager and adult) and my experience has been that most Hawaiians are actually Hawaiian-Chinese-Haole. (Haole usually means white or European descent.)
Don Ho is an example (and he was considered to be a native Hawaiian):
Don Ho was a singer of Native Hawaiian, Chinese, Portuguese, Dutch, and German descent.

The cartoon showing Hawaiians having very brown skin is pretty inaccurate, generally speaking.
The idea that the actress in the cartoon is not really a native Hawaiian is ridiculous, though.

I don't want to split hairs over what a Hawaiian person is, to me that girl simply looks more white than pacific islander/Polynesian, and especially doesn't like the character in the cartoon.
And it's kinda old hat to pretend to be ignorant about why white (or at least white looking) people are cast as non-whites than vice versa. As if 100 years of whitewashing never happened and everything in Hollywood was racially even stevens until on le day someone had the whacky idea to make Perry White a black guy. Meh.

There's been whitewashing long before Hollywood. Ever read Tom Sawyer?

I didn't know this actress and so I looked at her Instagram page. She had a tan last summer and I really don't understand why that would be "too light" for that role.
