Response to the film by those who saw it was overwhelmingly positive. Anyway, I have to laugh at the idea of Indiana Jones and Barbie having the same target audience. There were a multitude of factors that others have pointed out, but yes, it was partially done in by fears that it would turn Indy into a supporting character, which it did not.
You're saying idle rumors are why the movie lost almost $400,000,000.00?
I said that was only part of it, and I'm not the only person on the thread to have said it, how about that. But I wouldn't expect you to understand. You think movie theaters were turning off the AC so people wouldn't watch the Sound of Freedom, because somebody on YouTube said so. Maybe I'll be able to take your commentary seriously if you recover from your lobotomy. Have a nice day.

If the response was that positive it would have held up better over the weeks but it just faded away after its opening which wasn’t even that large According to this, people liked it. For the record, I agree with your reasoning as to why it failed. My son is 9 and he loved it, but then he's familiar with the character thanks to me. And all of this is failing to take into account pretty much everything other than Barbie and Oppenheimer failed to meet expectations last year. Streamers are killing theater business. If it isn't seen as 'an event' these days, general audiences aren't interested. To your point, Indy clearly wasn't the event Disney hopes it would be. Why pay theater prices if you can watch it at home in six weeks? Below 90% for a verified score on RT isn’t that impressive. I mean I’m not saying people hated it or anything but it’s staying power at the box office indicated a “meh” response

Sounds to me like it ended with a whimper twice.
I'll say this though. Even though box office is relative to its budget, it's still bizarre that a film that makes 130 million is a flop. That's sad.

It was more than the AC, including shills saying the movie was so AWFUL, it was so HORRIBLE, going into no details other than to say strangely enough 'That's NOT how child sex trafficking actually works!'......inquiring minds would like to know how they could be so sure of that.
What I do know is when I went to see Sound of Freedom, I walked in ahead of about 7 college students, all of whom I just KNEW were there to see Indiana Jones, nope, turns out we were all going to the same room. That struck me as odd, however, remembering that a movie trailer's job is to offer the BEST parts to make you WANT to see the movie, I saw the trailer for Dial of Destiny last year when I went to see Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, when the trailer started I was excited about a new Indiana Jones movie, and by the time the trailer ended, I'd already lost all interest in seeing it. The BEST they had to offer to sell us on it was not very persuasive.

I think I must be a tad on the simple side.
For me Any extra slice, Any further chapter to a well enjoyed chunk of entertainment is welcome, often very welcome.
It may not always taste exactly the same as those first mouthfuls, it may not sound quite as fresh as that first debut album, how can it possibly be..... but I still want to go there again.
The alternative is Nothing. Final chapter, NiL afters, Last Call, END of story, Drink up...Final orders...ADi0S Muchachos ! No...I W0NT be back....You're Too 0ld for this sh*t. EAT MY SHORTS!!!
I personally, and I know I'm not rare, want more Sherlock, Dr. Who, Marvel comics, Star Trek, Xenomorphs, Indy, Weyland-Yutani, SkyNet, Zorro, Blues Brothers, Rolling Stones, Kate Bush, Ethan Hunt, Robin bloody Hood.......I could go on.
And nowadays we GET these treats, made by other folk, wether by grown-up Fan boys, business minded companies, or who-ever. Who gives a flying fuck how much money is spent , how much profit or loss. I got Indy Destiny Dial on Blu-Ray by dialling ebay ....cost me a tenner...loved it. The reactionary in me could say...what's not to like..Great re-visit and satisfying swansong....or even simply..an enjoyable film. Thanks .
But also nowadays.....we ALSO have, unfortunately and stultifyingly boring, a breed of uber-critics who enjoy picking to pieces work others have done mysteriously gloating or glad the work isn't what they demand.
These mostly untalented folk spend time to hold court, pompously, publically blasting other's efforts, insulting, aggrieved, outraged, dismissive , childhood shattered, lofty........and who have done shit- all themselves. Where and when did these folk get so pompous and wannabe superior?
If one don't like something, fair dos, all art is subjective etc as I've always boringly said and if one don't wanna see something, they're not forced to. The same as I'm not forced to read their dull blatherings.....but Rabid fan-boy Art Snobs have always rubbed my rhubarb wrongly.
I am going to get some crisps. Peace and Love.

Sometimes 'nothing' can be preferable to running a dead horse into the ground. The only people who badmouthed Star Wars when it was just the original trilogy were people who thought themselves too 'sophisticated' to enjoy what they deemed 'a kids' movie'. The people badmouthing the franchise now, are all the people who loved the original trilogy and hate the way the story and characters were ruined and now the Disney versions have atrocious writing and are too busy pushing diverse agendas to care if the story sucks or not.
Leaving Ghostbusters at 2 movies and 2 cartoon series' would've been preferable to the 2016 disaster.
Highlander should've either stopped at the first movie or had better writers for the sequels.
Alien should've stopped at Aliens, or at least gone with the original draft for 3.

I guess we know now why Mad Max: Fury Road had to settle for a guy who looks and sounds absolutely NOTHING like Mel Gibson.

Funny, i'm actually re-watching that right now and was wondering why they did not bring Mel Gibson back, but this makes a lot of sense lol.

The simple fact is a Mad Max movie without Mel Gibson is NOT Mad Max.

Critical Drinker was very vocal about why the 5th Indiana Jones movie would be a disaster, in multiple videos.
That one was a year or so before the movie actually came out, hit a few nails real good on the head, and Harrison's age is just a minor point.
One of the top comments spells out a large reason why people were not interested.
You know, since Hollywood just LOVES to redo the same things over and over and over, they could've done a new generation equivalent of Marion, probably would've gone better.
Idle rumors that the movie was woke weren't what killed it. The woman responsible for the movie being made was. People can hate not-watch a show/movie just as easily as hate-watch, and seeing as how everybody with a brain hates Kathleen Kennedy and everything she stands for, it's just a wonder the movie didn't lose more money than it (officially) did.

This is an enormous contradiction, considering KK's reputation for 'wokeism.' The movie wasn't 'woke,' so the people's fears (which you insist wasn't the reason it bombed) were dead wrong. Do you have any opinions that weren't given to you by youtube videos or cable news outlets? Rhetorical question, don't bother answering. Anyway, this is the point I was making. People were convinced they were trying to 'replace Indy with a woman,' which isn't what happened at all. All the other complaints are completely valid. Maybe we 'didn't need another one,' (though very few sequels are 'necessary'), and surely the poor quality of the previous film affected the box office. And maybe people thought Ford is just too damn old. Fair points, all. But you just admitted Kathleen Kennedy (and all the baggage that comes with that) scared people away from seeing it. It was a combination of factors we've all mentioned several times now, but that was indeed a part of it. Thanks for agreeing with me without realizing it.
