Looks good, but Napoleon's life was so eventful, that I wish they had split this up into two movies or even a trilogy of films.

I think Ridley's gone public saying there will be a Director's Cut, already to go for home release.
That's fine, so long as that's not a safety valve of sorts to give the film 2 shots at critical response. (His announcement I mean)

I liked the 2016 "War & Peace" series. But I really don't know much about Napoleon. I'm usually interested in Biopics.

I'm surprised they didn't do a slowed down, dreary version of Duran Duran's "Notorious" only with lyrics changed to "Nuh-Nuh-Napoleon".

I don't mind Epics... But man I'd have to wait to watch it at home. Too many issues now sitting through 4 hours. (Plus Trailers.) Don't think I've sat through a long movie since the "Lord of the Rings" movies.

Unless I haven’t kept myself updated the 4 hour cut will be reserved for its eventual physical release and/or streaming. Believe theatrical is somewhat shorter. |

Many reviews attribute flaws to the short running length and make one hope for a better, longer version.
So I'm re-watching the 6 hr series from 2002 instead.

For accuracy and a realistic portrayal of the man's character, the 2002 French mini series is probably the best, in spite of the actor looking too old for the young Napoleon. I guess finding one actor to fit the 20 year span of the original wouldn't be possible. Even much of the dialogue is said to be accurate, at least based on existing records whenever available. It is low on spectacle but at least the colours look right. |
