I need a bigger one. Sink is at one end, and the distance between opposing counters is 6 1/2 feet, 6 feet at the stove, and from refrigerator to pantry is 5 1/2 feet. No room for an island or even anything in the center, rolling or not. Two people can't be doing things at the same time easily at all.
The floor is ceramic tiles. A few have issues from things that have fallen. The counters are ceramic tiles with grout issues. The cabinets are lightweight fake wood and don't close well.
My favorite design fail is that you can't open one counter drawer in the corner if the drawer next to the sink has its pull on it. I had to reverse the pull so it's on the inside.
The cabinet below that has a 10 inch wide door. The cabinet goes back 3 feet into the corner. You need a grabber to get stuff from the back. The cabinet in the opposite corner has a larger door and also goes back 3 feet, but things fall behind the dishwasher.

My kitchen is ok but I don't like the black and tan granite countertops because you can't see stuff thats stuck on it i.e. cat food gravy. I have to feel the countertops to find what needs to be scrubbed. It was pretty but I like light colored counter tops, I need to see the dirt. I also have a black porcelain sink. I love black but not in a kitchen. In a few weeks my plumber is going to remove the disposal unit (I hate garbage disposals) but thats all I'm doing to my kitchen, at my age I don't want to spend the $$$$ to redo a functional kitchen. My favorite kitchen was the one we had in our first house, it was a galley kitchen which suited me fine. As for countertops, I like butcher block. My floor is also tile with grout that always looks dirty and everything breakable shatters like crazy. I had a huge island in our Las Vegas home, didn't like it but had it surrounded by kitty stairs so the cats could have their meals on it. I would prefer a peninsula to an island. My kitchen is about 20' x 12 '. I have a pantry closet (wish I had a huge pantry) and the bottom of the cabinet doors are at the right height to poke me in the eye. (I'm short) I live in a shotgun style house and the kitchen is the first room, there are no doors for the kitchen, dining room and living room. At least its not really open concept, I don't like open concept (I'm messy)>

Needs better air conditioning. The kitchen's always the hottest room in the house during the summer.

In terms of floor space, I've often said that the Niners could practice in my kitchen. (Hopefully, they're getting the job done at "Camp.") The building houses 2 "flats," and dates to 1927.
Wall-to-wall, the main kitchen measures 14' X 14'. 2 1/2', take up the north wall, to accommodate; sink, counters, cabinets, stove and deep-storage. There's a pantry that leads to the back door, where the refrigerator "lives," along with purchased storage from The Container Store.
"Grumble, grumble," nothing's ever perfect. For a long time, I thought about an "island." But, that wouldn't have left room to expand a kitchen table, for various occasions. 3 years ago, a friend/colleague of many decades passed away. During her brief illness, she invited everyone to help-themselves to what she hadn't designated in her will. Her kitchen table was the perfect solution. It can be moved from the wall, to the center of the floor. It's tall enough to work as a counter-space, when needed. And, it has a sophisticated means of folding, that expands/contracts the surface area.
I'm thankful for it, and call it "Sue's Island."
