Just accept that he is never going to finish the last two books, and just move on.

Just accept that he is never going to finish the last two books, and just move on. Even if he does finish them, what good would they be? The show is finished. It would be like getting a script for something we'll never see. Pointless.

Without any thought as to whether it's gonna end up as a tv show or movie, or not? Why, I never...that's almost socialism .

If there was never a live action version created, and you were a book fan I can understand it. But knowing that a live action version of the final book(s) could have existed would make a book seem super lackluster, regardless of how much better the ending may be.

Help me understand. Say you've never read/watched anything LOTR related. You watch Fellowship of the Ring and the Two Towers and loved them both but then the movies are cancelled but they instead release a book version. You would be perfectly satisfied with seeing final part of the story in text form only?

You would be perfectly satisfied with seeing final part of the story in text form only? Absolutely. Well-written novels form a theater of the mind all on their own. A well-realized film version (which is rarity enough anyway) is all well and good, but certainly isn't going to supplant the mental visuals I've formed. So I'd have zero problem with 'only' reading the book format as opposed to film adaption, regardless of having seen filmed versions of part of the novels.
