I love Seems Like Old Times. It's been years, since I've watched it. Time to dust off the old DVD.
When I first saw it, I assumed that "Chicken Pepperoni," was a name that Neil Simon came up with. There are fun scenes, like Charles Grodin on the phone to someone in Italy, to get the recipe. "Veal? There's no veal in chicken pepperoni."
The sauce that appears, before and during the dinner scene, has the look of a fairly basic tomato-based concoction. I made up my own recipe, using a lot of garlic, and Mediterranean herbs. It was great, and I still make it.
Later, there came this thing called Google. Out of curiosity ... and spare time ... I occurred to me to look up Chicken Pepperoni. I was surprised to find that it's an actual dish. I've never tried "the real thing." But, I really like my version.

I had some peppers to use so I just made this up yesterday. When I Googled Chicken Pepperoni some years ago that was when I first learned it was probably a chicken and peppers and tomato dish since Aurora would have been a Spanish speaker.

I just talked to a friend who's Italian. She said that "peperoni" ... no double p in the middle ... is Italian for "peppers." So, your recipe is closer to the real thing.
Enjoy!!
