Any fans? I really liked this back in the day. Recently re-watched the series with my wife and she enjoyed it as well.

I can't say I'm a fan, but I'm doing a sort of re-watch right now, since I only saw the show sporadically when I was a kid.

I wasn’t really a fan, but I remember it quite well from when it originally aired, mostly because of Stephen Baldwin, Josh Brolin, and Anthony Zerbe. In some ways it reminded me of The Young Guns, in that the characters in this feature had special skill sets when it came to riding, roping, firearms/knife handling, etc.
The TV series, while relatively short lived, outlasted the real Pony Express by a few years.
If I recall correctly (and I’m totally going from memory here) the actual riders were issued the Henry Repeating Rifles, chambered for the .44 Henry rimfire, since they were traveling through hostile territory solo. The Henry Rifle was the predecessor to the Winchester repeating lever action.

The Henry Rifle was the predecessor to the Winchester repeating lever action. It's no coincidence that it reminded you of Young Guns. It was the popularity of that movie that inspired the TV folks to make this show. It happens all the time on TV. Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica is just one other example.

I was actually a big fan of the original Battlestar Galactica taylorfirst1 Didn’t care for the remake though. Sadly, we recently lost Richard Hatch, that played Capt Apollo in the original series, and also had a small part in the remake.

Yes it is sad that Richard Hatch passed away.
