Yeah, the new characters are either leaden or annoying. The only one i sorta liked (turned out to be the lead killer in 5). Though Cox and Panettiere didn’t fare any better in the latest outing either. Chad & Mindy are indeed irritating. Especially the latter. Whenever she opens her mouth, the eye-rolling begins. Is it the delivery, or the writing, or a bit of both. I don’t understand the constant referring to Randy. Maybe it seems cute to some, but for me, it’s nauseating. I could deal with it in 5, but 6 her obnoxious persona just wore out its welcome quick. After the opening, which I thought was rather unique, it’s disappointing how questionably daft it becomes. I guess it would be curious to listen the bluray commentary track, to hear any insight on what transpires on screen. And that happy ending, after everybody survived constant stabbings does make you scratch your head. Especially Chad. Gee, he was probably stabbed more times than Richie was in the previous film. How wasn’t he not unconscious, or even dead when he was wheeled out. You’ll think the amount blood lost would be huge, and how long was he laying there before medics even got to him. I guess he had to be conscious, to squeeze in that kiss scene. Also there’s the moment Mindy runs to him… wait a minute, wasn’t she just brutally stabbed in the gut. Now she’s in no discomfort. I don’t know, there seemed to be odd time difference when her stabbing occurred on the train, and when the final showdown begins. Everything about it was ridiculous, I was waiting for one of the sister’s to wake up and realise the happy ending was only dream, and people actually had died. Who knows maybe the opening for Scream 7, will show what happened at the end of 6 was just a dream… and the twins were killed off. Can only hope 😁 I know exactly who you're talking about and they were my favorite new character as well. If only they lived and Chad and Mindy were the killers or something. The actress who plays Mindy was good in The Leftovers, and she was even pretty good in the scene in 6 where she watches her girlfriend die. But I don't know if she can deliver comedy, or at least the lines they give her, which are neither funny nor very insightful meta commentary. Really makes one appreciate Jamie Kennedy/Kevin Williamson. Yeah. 6 had a GREAT opening and honestly there were a lot of other setpieces I really liked, such as the ladder, bodega, and subway scenes. That's why I've been hesitant to offcially call if the worst of the franchise. If they pulled a Descent it would make a lot more sense. They basically reduced these movies to zero stakes. They'd have to decapitate Chad and throw him in a meat grinder in 7 for me to take his death seriously. I think it would’ve made more sense for Mindy to be the second killer in 5, instead who they went with. But then again we wouldn’t have the pleasure of seeing a risibly bad Stu impression for the climax. You could probably say Kennedy’s comedian background gave him an edge in timing and delivery. Along with Williamson’s on-point writing. It just felt natural, and razor sharp. Something which is missing with the new films. 6 might work better on repeat viewings for me? I have to admit, at one time Scream 4 was my least favourite, but it has grown on me. But you definitely could argue 6 has some of the best slasher/chase set-pieces since Scream 2. Easily outdoes Scream 3 on that front (though I do like the Cotton Weary & Sarah set-pieces). You now have me questioning myself. Is 6 worse, even with those memorable set-pieces? I think I’ll always come back to the performances/cast of Scream 3. Only slightly. The other day there was an article I was reading where the two writers explained why Chad survived Scream 6. And it didn’t make much sense, or really explained why. 1. His attack scene was originally more brutal, with even more stabbings. But they thought it was unbelievable?! So it was toned down, to what we see now. Still a brutal scene. Don’t understand how him surviving, or not being in a serious condition after his attack scene is any more believable. Honestly this proves he was going to survive no matter what happened. Very fitting to your meat grinder joke 2. In their words “ The ‘Scream' franchise is meant to be 'secret feel-good movies' at the end the day”. Okay. Kind contradictory… when believability was brought up as a factor. What do you think of the talk Sam could be the killer in 7, especially with those pep talking Billy visions. Interesting direction (possibly another Halloween Ends(?), but it wouldn’t be ‘Scream’ to me without the whodunnit angle of guessing who’s hiding behind the ghostface mask.

Interesting direction (possibly another Halloween Ends(?), but it wouldn’t be ‘Scream’ to me without the whodunnit angle of guessing who’s hiding behind the ghostface mask. Yeah. Honestly I kinda loved that person's performance for that reason (although their character had absolutely zero screen presence before the reveal). Originally the killer of 6 was gonna go for that way OTT, Matthew Lillard style also, but it got toned down in the editing. You can see their outtakes here and I think it's a shame they didn't include them just because the killer was so boring and predictable otherwise: youtu.be/ZBFygCQJFwk?si=fsQDloNBW_E3wBB_4 was definitely a mixed bag, but the climax is such a clever subversion of remakes and legacy reboots that it makes the movie for me. The opposite of 6 where the climax is so ridiculous it just derails everything. As for growing on you, I only dislike 6 more and more with time and rewatches so we'll see. I can sort of see their point since each movie basically ends on a happy note, but at the same time, people DID die. 2 killed Randy. 5 killed Dewey. And as far as I know, Chad doesn't even have the same following those characters had. The only people I see stanning Chad are tweens on the Scream subreddits who like his shirtless scenes.
6 had a whopping six returning characters, which is already too many to juggle while also introducing new ones. Now if they bring back Sam's love interest and Sidney, that's eight. It's insane.
I wouldn't mind Sam as a killer. For one thing, I think her character kinda crossed a moral horizon when she killed Dermot even after he begged for his life and she pretended to spare him. I find the way they portray her being Billy's daughter and spin it into having basically "psycho superpowers" she can tap into kinda dumb and off-putting.
I think they also need a formula change at this point, and making a returning character a villain might do it. And since these movies are winking at the DGG Halloween trilogy already it could be fitting. That reminds me, 7 is gonna be a different director. I know a lot of people are disappointed by that but I couldn't be happier to get some new blood in there.
Hell, they can make any of the returning characters the killer and I'll take it. Chad being secretly in on it in 5 and 6 and the killers purposefully not stabbing him critically might be he only sane explanation for his Wet Bandit level resilience to injury.
