They definitely feel work for hire. His early stuff had a distinct style with a blending of genres like action and horror with indie mumblecore and laced with dark humor. His bigger movies don't have any style whatsoever. I have no idea what his motives are. Maybe he's building studio cred to do original stuff again later, or he could just like the money. We're approaching ten years since The Guest so he doesn't seem to be in a hurry to get out of franchise town. It looks like it, doesn’t it. Kong vs Godzilla sequel on its way. With projects like Thundercats & Face/Off 2 attached to his name. Though the Face/Off sequel might be interesting. Eh, I wasn't even a big fan of the first Face/Off.

They'll bring back the original actors and they're children will switch faces this time. Fucking lame.

Though hoping Wingard could bring his own spin to the material. And teaming up with his co-writing pal Simon Barrett again. It could go down a horror/action route like Your’re Next/The Guest. Even the 1994 French film: The Machine. No idea if there’ll be a connection with the original film eg storyline continuation, same actors…etc. Possibly only in name. Then again, you could be right the direction it goes. Turning out like Wingard/Barrett’s last outing together Blair Witch. Disappointing.

Perhaps, but I have no faith in him at this point, and very little in any way-too-late sequel. They all seem to do exactly the same thing; the old actors come back and the next generation deals with the same struggle they dealt with. It's all so rigidly formulaic.

Man, did he ever fuck up with Blair Witch. Had a pretty good trajectory up until then, I thought he had the potential to make an instant classic horror film at some point, but that knocked him right off track. I don’t think he’s really recovered, but I would like to see him get his mojo back. I hope one day he will deliver on the early promise he had.
