I haven't had these in years, they don't seem to sell them in the grocery stores. Yesterday WKD and I drove to a country fruit stand to buy our pumpkins (the place has the best selection I have ever seen) and they had Jonathan apples!!! I guess a lot of people don't want to bother with them since they a small and not pretty but they are the best tasting apple. I grew up on Jonathan's but in the 50's, the grocery stores usually only carried bags of Johnathan apples, MacIntosh, Granny Smith, Winesap and Delicious. Over the past 2 decades, the stores have been flooded with fancier and prettier apples, i.e. Ambrosia, Cosmic, Honeycrisp etc. but no Johnathans. Do you have any favorites that are hard to find?

Not really. When I grew up, I only remember Delicious and McIntosh. We used to go to Tice's Farm but for cider. Don't recall coming home with apples. It was 10 cents for all you could drink, there were taps throughout, and the cider was cold. No idea what kind of apples they used, but the orchard was all around. They had competition across from them doing much the same.

Jonathans were always my favorites until I found Galas. We still get Jonathans in the stores here, but we also have many area apple orchards, so maybe that's why. I still buy them when they first show up in the store because I like them while they are still crisp. They get kind of mealy after they've been around for awhile.
