"The hardness of cold rice is more because it's stale than because it's dried out. It's starch molecules crystalizing. Heat reverses the effect; That's why frying can refluffify it.
Store it in an airtight container and then reheat by either frying or microwaving with a damp paper towel on top. The moisture in the paper towel is to give you an even steaming. It isn't absorbed into the rice."

I've nevefr used the damp paper towel, microwaving it open has generally worked fine for me.
