What are your thoughts on this, the second highest grossing film of 1977?
Never seen the whole thing, but it looks pretty funny, especially Jackie Gleason. I remember the Leonard Maltin book compared it to the Three Stooges.

Never seen its entirety either. Car movies/tv culture had its era.

A fun movie, but that's about it.

A fun movie, but that's about it. Well what's wrong with fun?

I remember not being particularly impressed by it.
Star Wars, which was the highest grossing film of 1977, has become a cultural touchstone while this has been largely forgotten by the present generation.

As someone from the west coast, I don't really get the "humor".

One of my favorite films growing up and I still enjoy it a lot. Of course I was car obsessed kid and especially loved the Trans Am in this movie and the Dukes’ Charger. I was too young to catch this one at the theater but my parents did take me to see part 2 when it came out. I had the plastic model of the car which was proudly displayed on my bookcase. I always enjoyed Buford’s police car slowly getting destroyed and always wanted to try a Diablo Sandwich. Fun fact, before he became Enos in Dukes of Hazzard, Sonny Shroyer played a patrol officer in this film. While Star Wars eclipsed this film monetarily this really was the surprise hit of the year.

A blessing and a curse for Burt, but on its own a fun movie and great scenery chewing from Gleason.

The only reason i even gave it a try was because Sally Field was in it.
But i did like the movie, i think its a good movie.
Did not like the second one as much, never watched the third one.

A fun movie, but that's about it. Well what's wrong with fun? Nothing at all. Just don't expect it to be thought-provoking.
