Today I learned there is "professional darts" Big in the UK. It a combination of darts and pro wrestling. The darters have their own entrance music, ffs.

Cannot for the life of me comprehend a room full of rowdies interested in these outcomes. Is gambling 90% of the fun?

Cannot for the life of me comprehend a room full of rowdies interested in these outcomes. Is gambling 90% of the fun? How is it any less interesting than any other sport? If anything this is more fun due to how they make a show of it, like wrestling as a user above mentioned. Walkout music, fun crouds, funny commentating etc

Other sports involve exciting competition and athleticism. Darts and billiards/pool are similar to me in the I recognize that there's skill to it but I can't imagine how anyone finds it entertaining to watch. ... Similar for bowling, golf, and Nascar too, now that I think of it. But darts would have to be the least athletic of the games that some consider to be sports. You literally only move your hand up to the wrist. That said, I've enjoyed playing darts when I used to go to bars and had friends that played competitively. I get the fun in playing these games, but I can't fathom watching them on TV.

It's kind of fun watching competitions and thinking "Hey, I could do that!". Bowling, darts, billiards, poker.
But it takes untold hours of practice to excel at these, as much practice as baseball or football. Not tooting my own horn (beep beep) but I excel at pool. Because I used to shoot 20-30 hours a day. I could have gone on the pro tour but decided college was a better option. I still shoot 2-3 hours a day, 3-4 days a week. Split between pool and snooker. And I'm sure these portly gents have put in the same hours, probably more

Being athletic is great, and healthy etc for those involved, but it shouldn't dictate what is or isn't entertaining.
Also there are quite a few non or minimal athletic olympic sports such as archery, shooting, horse riding, bobsledding etc. If you're interested in the sport, then it's entertaining, regardless of if its about athleticism, skill, luck or whatever.
People even watch poker or esports. Something I personally don't care at all about, but many seem to.

Likewise I can't fathom watching someone play video games or poker. Movies and TV shows are entertaining, and perhaps a movie or TV show could make darts look entertaining to watch. But I've watched some darts, cornhole, bowling, poker, etc. on TV, and I'm amazed than anyone finds any of it to be entertaining.

One of the reasons I quit watching darts is that it was taking too much time away from film/TV.

But it should dictate what's considered a sport. Leisure games are not sports. Anything a 60 year old man can compete with people in their 20s isn't a sport. You have some great examples here for starters. Add golf to the list. If you're entertained by darts, cool. People find those tiktok videos of kids flipping bottles fun too, I guess. But I don't expect to see threads about it on a sports message board.

But yeah leisure game may make more sense. I don't really mind what people call it. Sorry for ruining the sub board with this off topic thread. Maybe Admin can move it.

Curling is Canada's comfort food sport... while it doesn't take a triathlete to play or win, it does help immensely for the season grind for at home & abroad internationally. I only watch the Brier btw, the 5 Slam events seem copy pasted names not enough variety or provincial bragging rights.

I was talking with the other poster and you came in and seemed to not like the line which you bolded. I was just responding to that in turn, and the admin part was a joke but I guess sarcasm can be hard to spot in text form.
Like I said I'm not really into sports (or leisure games), so someone disagreeing wouldn't bother me lol. I simply wanted people's thoughts on this unusual sport (or leisure game) 👍

How am I being defensive? You're the one crying and telling admin to move your post because of something I said. Grow up.

I don't see professional darts on the sports networks very much nowadays. It has been replaced with poker.
I would watch darts if and only if there was nothing else on.
My favourite player is/was Raymond van Barneveld. For a time, he would have an image of Barney Rubble on the back of his shirt.
