Hi guys. I wonder if there's someone out there can solve a little query that's been bugging me for some time. As a trained albeit now retired musician I;ve always been interested in all sorts of music, not least operettas and musicals, and I have quite a large collection of recordings of such shows, Orchestras which provide the musical backing in stage productions normally, at the end of the performance, receive due accolades from the audience. However recently I've been watching and recording 1995 to 2005 performances of The American Musical Theatre of San Jose ( AMTSJ ), previously known as the San Jose Civic Light Opera ( SJCLO) which was a major professional nonprofit musical theatre company in San Jose, California. (Sadly it went bankrupt and the then Company assets were auctioned the last week of February 2009.) duckduckgo.com/?q=amtsj+theatre+musicals&t=chromentp&ia=webwww.youtube.com/results?search_query=American+Musical+Theatre+of+San+Josesanjosetheaters.org/wedding-venue-california-theatre-san-jose/The performances were quite wonderful and yes a conductor is seen, but no orchestra, and no accolades for either conductor or orchestra, and this seems to be the same with all their shows. So my query is, "What happened to them". Did they use a piped score (i.e without the voices, although I've never come across any) which I believe many are available in the States, and used by schools etc? Was the conductor there for stage performers only? Is the orchestra pit simply out of view. Even if the latter was true, I would imagine some light would be seen, but no. Can anyone help?
