So far the only thing from Eggers I saw is The Witch, but this does intrigue me.

I like Eggers a lot. I wish he was making something original, but I'll be very interested in how this turns out.

Northman was okay... I was expecting a bit more. I have watched "The Witch". Good production and attention to detail. But no desire to watch it again.

It rewards multiple views. Only saw The Northman once, but I'd like to again. I loved all of the period and cultural detail and texture, but I found it a little underwhelming too. That choreography of that final fight scene left a lot to be desired as I remember it. But I loved The Lighthouse. It just hit me the right way. I kinda have to stop and watch it every time it's one. There's something really engrossing about it.

Looking forward to this. A reason to stay out of direct sunlight.

I think the action in The Northman is great. I don't remember the choreography of the final fight specifically, but you could stage a picnic scene on an active volcano and it'd look badass. As far as originally goes, we've gotten 3 semi original movies from him so I'm okay with him tackling a remake. I wonder if he'll do his period accuracy thing and everyone in this will be a flapper who talks like they're in the 1920s.

I wonder if he'll do his period accuracy thing and everyone in this will be a flapper who talks like they're in the 1920s. The oner raid on the village that begins with him catching the spear is spectacular, but the other fights I found to be underwhelming. As cool as the undead warrior with the magic sword looked, I don't recall that fight being particularly exciting, and the build up to that final fight on the volcano is suitably great, but I just didn't think that scene lived up to how great the setting was. I thought some wider shots of that setting and some better fight choreography would have helped the impact of that scene. It felt a little anticlimactic when everything you'd say in describing sounds incredibly climactic. But, I haven't seen it more than once. Maybe when I watch it again I'll feel a little differently. I assume he will continue to be obsessive about period detail. I was wondering what year it would be set, and what language it would be in. I'm sure if the studio let him it would be in Romanian and German. I believe the original film takes place in the 1830s while Dracula takes place in the 1890s... but I suppose it would be viable to set it in the 1920s as well. That could be an interesting alteration.

The nice thing about the original is that the vampire had no sympathy. The 79 remake tried to make him pitiful and I suspect this will do it too.
Merciless vampires are pretty rare. Barlow, Valek...
Jack Crow: Valek ... why don't you prove you can kick my ass? Come on, untie me. Come on. Fuckin' pole smokin' fashion victim. Come on over here.
