I listened to the audio book fairly recently. Not sure that I love that the guy who did The Hunger Games is doing it since the Hunger Games sure seems like a mashup of the Bachman books The Long Walk and The Running Man. But that's fine I guess. It's amazing that it's taken so long.
I remember Anre Ovredal saying he was very close to shooting when covid essentially killed the movie. He had story boarded or animatic-ed or visualized the whole movie in some way with his DP and was weeks away from shooting. His approach sounded interesting. It was gonna include some element of a found footage-ish approach with the walkers wearing body cams.
And, as the article noted, Frank Darabont was developing this film for a while years ago.
I also recall a stage version being discussed at some point. I don't believe it was ever staged, but I think some prominent producer wanted to mount this as a play.
Clearly there's interest in this story. It's just kind of amazing that it hasn't been done yet.

I read the book years ago. Some consider it to be among his best works. I liked it but of his Richard Bachman books I wouldn't consider it his finest. Good characterisations (as always with King) but weak ending.

I couldn't really get into it and never finished it, and I know many people consider it his absolute worst novel. I don't think Rage is even available anymore, so I haven't read that one either.

Rage was removed from circulation due to its controversial subject matter, I believe. I never read Roadwork. Just didn't interest me. My favourite Bachman book is Thinner. It's more of a traditional SK novel than the rest of the Bachmans, in that the focus is solidly supernatural. Short, dark and with a crazy ending. Loved it.

Because I think the movie is laughably bad. It doesn't help that the ending centers around an evil cherry pie, which is one of the dumbest things ever, but also feels very stephen king.

Never seen the movie adaptation, so can't comment on that.

Never seen the movie adaptation, so can't comment on that. It's really something. I guess some people like it, but I've always found it really dumb, and ultimately pretty unintentionally hilarious. It's an unsettling concept though. I can see the idea of the story working.
