Bloody Disgusting: Universal and Blumhouse’s ‘Speak No Evil’ Remake Rated “R” for “Strong Violence” and “Sexual Content”Universal and Blumhouse’s remake of the Danish film Speak No Evil has been complete and receives an R rating. For those unfamiliar, Speak No Evil is a Danish drama/horror film from 2022 about a Danish family who befriends Dutch family while on vacation in (I think) Italy, and they agree to visit them in the Dutch suburbs. This new friendship soon begins ti groe uncomfortable and then clearly unsettling, and .... I will so no more. It's one of the best films of the last few years, and only one of the few of late that's legitimately disturbing in its subdued, character driven approach. I have to assume that this Blumhouse remake will be less patient and likely less disturbing and dread inducing, but the cast is a good start. They seem to have good actors in place, so that should help. The release date for the remake is set for August 9th 2024.

Original sounds kinda like Midsommar.

Original sounds kinda like Midsommar. Similar in the feeling of people making bad choices in order to be polite and staying in a situation despite the mounting dread in a strange land, but it's much smaller in scale and doesn't have the operatic sorta tone. I wouldn't wanna say to much more, but it is similar in that sense of inevitability that you can see where things are going (for different reasons). But otherwise it's not really the same. Different in style and character etc.

A warning to those who are interested in the film... if you haven't seen the original, this trailer contains massive spoilers. Like, shocking amounts of detail about things that were revelations in the movie.
The way to go into the movie, at least the original, is with only some idea of what you're getting in to and not the direction that this trailer goes, which is to give away major, late stage developments.
If you have any interest in the original do not watch the trailer for the remake.
In any event, this remake looks pretty much how you'd expect. A less subtle, more obvious, more on the nose, version of what was originally a really dreadful (in the best possible way) little film.
Maybe it looks that way mostly because the trailer just shows waaaaay too much, but it also seems that it's much more explicit about things that were creeping and slowly dawned on the audience.
Might be OK, but it sure looks like a pale imitation from the trailer.
