I saw this a few weeks ago on Reddit. It goes to show that even the current most popular scripted TV shows don't compare to what it was in the 90's. I would wager a third or fourth ranked show on Thursday night in 1995 would find its way in the top 100 in that year.

Doesn’t really shock me at all. Football is one of the few things that can bring Americans together.

Honestly, I'm surprised that many people watched the State of the Union.

"Next Level Chef?" WTF? We do live in a country of morons. It was on immediately after last year's Super Bowl. That is 100% a situation where people just left their TVs on afterwards (including at the hundreds of thousands of bars playing it), thus driving up the ratings. However, that is merely incidental, so yes, we do live in a country of morons.

Like how orthodox jews can't touch anything electronic or operate machinery during Shabbat....so if they want to watch the Ranger game on Friday, they just leave the TV on before sundown, on the desired channel and at the desired volume, and poof! No rules broken there!

I'm not religious at all, but that seems like a loophole that kinda undoes the entire point of the rule.

I was outside grilling and he flagged me down and asked me to flip it back on. I said I don't know man. I don't want to piss off anybody's God. I did it but really, what's the point if you are just going to have me do it for you. You clearly aren't that much of a believer.

I'm no Torah scholar, but as I understand it the issues surrounding not using electronics is about not 'doing work' of any kind because you're only supposed to be observing a day of rest and reflecting on religion. Now in today's age wouldn't you think that using modern conveniences would ease your level of 'work' and allow you to 'rest' more easily? It's almost as if it's subjective and that interpreting these things literally doesn't make much sense.
