One of those where the performances are great, in an otherwise alright film. Bogart is not a hero here, & its bleak ending surprised me considering its 1950 date - I've been conditioned to classic Hollywood refusing anything less than a happy closure.
Gloria Grahame is very good, I'm certain I'd not seen her aside It's a Wonderful Life - rabbit hole on her life is something... marrying her stepson ftw.
