www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore/_/gameId/401568483www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore/_/gameId/401568492A pleasant start after last year's historic cellar-dwelling season. Late start tonight in L.A. means I can catch the game on my CCrane radio. 1120-KMOX is a clear channel at night. Hard to get sometimes in the city but I used to be able to pick it up always in my truck. Before Covid I would listen to every single night game on the radio. Usually with a book.

Cheers season 4, episode 8 , "Love Thy Neighbor." Sam is interviewed on a radio call-in show. www.imdb.com/title/tt0539800/- Sam, you were known as quite a ladies' man during your playing days. Are women more impressed by a man in a baseball uniform? Well, actually I found women were a lot more impressed when I was out of my uniform, if you get my drift. Hey. No, seriously, you know, a lot of the chicks I dated know nothing about the game of baseball at all. You know, in fact, one former love bunny actually brought a book to a Red Sox game to pass time between pitches. "Love bunny"? A book? You mean, like, to read? I swear to God, Dave. Gee, I wonder who that was, Diane. .. his grandchildren about that. Anyway, this is Dave Richards saying, "Be a sport. Don't be a jerk." Goodbye. I had to do overnights for work during the 2013 WS. I tired recording the games, staying away from the internet and watching when I got home. But I couldn't. So I listened on the radio MLB offered. I alternated between the Red Sox and Cards broadcasts. For Game 4, I was listening to KMOX and Mike Shannon. In the bottom of the 9th, down a run, the Cards got a runner on 1st with two outs. Koji Uehara kept throwing over to 1st, over and over and over. Shannon started getting pissed "I don't why Koji is throwing to 1st so many times. Kolten Wong isn't going anywhere. Why does he keep throwing" And Uehara picked off Wong. There was a long silence and a very contrite Shannon says "Well, I guess that's why Uehara was throwing to first that many times."
Loved Mike Shannon

I don't really start with baseball until the NCAA is over.
I'm betting it's not the last time i can catch the Dodgers on a national broadcast

www.espn.com/mlb/boxscore/_/gameId/401568506Just my luck. Too much interference to get the game on the radio and they gave up two runs in the 9th to tie it and won it in the 10th. But they won a game. 0-3 start doesn't seem like much but that is very, very bad.

I did see a stat once where if you start 0-3, which doesn't seem that much with a 162 game season, your chances of making the playoffs drops off very sharply.

The last three teams to do that were the 2007 Phillies, the 2003 Braves and the 2001 Cardinals. In major league history, four teams have started the season 0-3 and won the World Series — the 1998 New York Yankees (who finished the regular season 114-48), the 1973 Oakland Athletics (94-68), the 1914 Boston Braves (94-59) and 1911 Philadelphia Athletics (101-50).

Got the game on the radio tonight pretty clear once the sun went down. Cards blow another lead late. Lose 5-4.

What about starting 1-3 against the NL's Evil Empire? Gonna be another long season...
