linkThe screenwriter and director whose credits include Apocalypse Now, Dirty Harry (uncredited), Jeremiah Johnson, The Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean, The Wind and the Lion, Big Wednesday, Clear and Present Danger, 1941, Extreme Prejudice, Geronimo: An American Legend, Jaws (uncredited, helped craft the monologue Quint gives about his war story), Conan the Barbarian (1982), and the original Red Dawn. He was also a writer on the video games Medal of Honor: European Assault and Homefront and co-created the HBO series Rome. He was nominated for one Academy Award, in the writing for Apocalypse Now. He was also the inspiration for John Goodman's character in The Big Lebowski. A documentary was produced about him, simply titled "Milius". Quite a character he is, favorite work of his?

So many screenplays that are essential to my life. Not my favorite but I have a soft spot for Big Wednesday. It’s not a perfect movie. An essential monologue that explains the title is missing. I read the script somewhere that included that monologue but for some reason it isn’t in the film. I’m not sure if the scene was actually filmed or not. It’s a wonderful movie to me, however. It somehow makes me nostalgic for a place in time that wasn’t at all a part of my life.

The original Indianaoplis speech had Quint saying "You see what happens, Hirohito? You see what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass?"
