After watching the original Star Wars last night, seemed only natural to follow up with this anti-capitalism gem from 100 years ago. Legend has it the original cut was 9 hours long and cut footage gone forever. The reconstructed version uses lots of still images in an effort to show what von Snyder’s original cut could have been.
Not sure how I feel about the actual movie. For many movies from the silent era, I appreciate them more as a historical curiously in both filmmaking techniques and the culture of said era.

I loved that they were able to partially restore it to 4 hours with a lot of stills from the movie. It's amazing it was originally 8 hours long, with the conditions they had to work under for the desert scenes. 120 degrees, have to pack the cameras in ice so the film didn't melt, etc. What people wouldn't do to tell a great story back then.
I was surprised though because I thought ZaSu Pitts looked very old in it, and that's the youngest movie I've seen her in.
Meanwhile was I the only one who thought McTeague looked something like a cat?
